Memento Mori.cards game

Topic: essay Critique

Part 1
This article is in reference to a cards game known as Memento Mori. The writer has employed a simple format of presenting the logic in the article where he/she avoids the use of conjunctions such as and, but, and or. Instead the writer uses short direct statements to explain the logic.
The writer does good to create suspense in the introduction by first describing the elements of the game itself before revealing its name, Memento Mori, to the reader. This is a good tactic to engage the interest of the reader.
However, the undoing of the article is where the writer underestimates the relevance of some aspects of the game such as the symbols on the cards. The writer terms the symbols as “not significant” which in a way serves to belittle the game.
I would also take issue with the way the writer introduces the ball element in the second paragraph. This is because there is no mention of “the ball” in the first paragraph where the rundown of the game is made. It thus startles the reader to realize that there are other aspects to the Memento Mori game that have not been alluded to. Generally, the lack connectors in the sentences makes the ideas to be disjointed and lack good flow. As such the reader has problems understanding the writing consistently.
Part 2
The article makes effort to support the claim that indeed playing the game is easy but not winning it. This is evident from the narration of the writer regarding how everyone else but him won the game. It supports the claim that we all have different power of memory which comes in handy in such mind games as Memento Mori (King, 2010).

Part 3
Personally, I find the Memento Mori game particularly interesting. I identify with the meaning of its Latin name, which is “Remember you must die” or “Remember your mortality, or “Remember you will die.” There is no doubt that no human being is immortal in this life as emphasized by this ancient game. It is relevant game in the to all people it serves to remind us the brevity of life and the need to refrain from sinning since death comes unannounced (King, 2010).
