Question 1: Donald Norman Changed His Mind (Norman)
Today’s exploration of usability design or experience design requires a mental attitude which is subjective, post-positivist, and experientialist. How do you see this objective-subjective dichotomy?
I see the objective-subjective dichotomy as false in relation to the application of the two concepts in understanding human interactions and the universe. Just like the case of politics and aspects of religion, there is no essence of black or white in the expression of the dichotomy. A clear example of the incorporation of the two concepts in understanding the world is the expression of John Siau in the demonstration of the benchmark media. Subjectivists in this false dichotomy tend to trust their ears thus ignoring the concept of objectivity. These individuals argue that they possess superior hearing or listening techniques and advanced tastes in the understanding of the events or the universe. Subjectivists spend the majority of their time in the aspects of evaluating or tweaking the hardware in comparison to the objectivists (Norman, 2005).
Objectivists, on the other hand, tend to prefer or subscribe to the aspects of science, tests, experiments, and measurements in the adoption and implementation of the relationships between events and interactions within the universe (Norman, 2005). In comparing two events or environments, objectivists will adopt and implement the concept of measuring in determining which of the two is most effective or appropriate for the situation. Objectivism incorporates the acts of skepticism in relation to events or interactions occurring across the universe. Most of the modern scholars fall in this category thus illustrating the subscription of scientists to the concept of objectivism. Despite these divisions or dichotomy, I find it difficult to understand the distinction between the two concepts. This makes it a false dichotomy. Human beings value objectivity in the measurement of activities. At the same time, human beings trust their ears thus accepting the evaluation even when indifference because others might have the ability to determine the difference. Incorporation of objectivity and subjectivity in the evaluation of the events provide an accurate measure thus it is difficult to outline the difference of the two concepts. This demands the adoption of moderate reasoning in relation to the concept of objectivity and subjectivity (Norman, 2005).
Question 2: Philosophy–A Crash Course (Wittkower)
Perhaps computer science and computer engineering should also try linking more closely to popular culture. What do you think about philosophy? What is a philosophy as you see it now? How does it relate to the iPod (or House, South Park, bullshit,)?
I think philosophy is important and significance towards the development of the society from a different perspective. Philosophy plays a critical role in enhancing the knowledge of the individuals within the society. This indicates that philosophy contributes towards the development of reasoning ability in relation to humanity. Human beings have to evaluate choices and make valuable and credible decisions in relation to events and interactions within the society. Another importance of philosophy is an enhancement of morality among the human beings within the society (Wittkower, 2008).
Morality is an important factor in interactions within the society thus effective application of decisions with vital influence on individuals and others. Philosophy is also essential in the identification of deception. This is essential in limiting the essence of exploitations affecting the modern citizens or individuals through activities such as religion. Through philosophy, individuals have the ability to identify wrong and correct beliefs thus minimization of exploitation and cult divisions. Philosophy is also essential in understanding of the history of thoughts from the historical perspective. This is through the incorporation of creativity in the thinking process thus enhancing the level of interactions between members of the society. Philosophy is also essential in enhancing the living condition. This is through improvement of the culture and behavior of individuals thus the need to incorporate and integrate philosophy in the modern interactions across the globe (Wittkower, 2008).
In the modern society, philosophy is a forgotten concept in the act of science. This is because the world sees philosophy as a threat to the understanding of other concepts. The incorporation of philosophy on the concept of science should improve the understanding, reasoning, and decision-making among human beings. The application of philosophy on technology is evident in the development of the advanced devices such as iPod. These developments contribute towards enhancing the living condition of the humanity thus enabling the improvement of culture. Philosophy incorporates modern culture in enhancing the aspect of the traditional culture thus essential for the understanding of the current and future world. This is an indication that computer science should integrate philosophy in the understanding of humanity and interactions within the society (Wittkower, 2008).
Question 3: Get Ready to be A Salesman (Male or Female) (Evans)
“I do not know what you think about all of this social networking stuff. As far as I am concerned, I am here to sell a product. Social media marketing is what this whole thing is about.”Read the above quote. What are these two people talking about? What are your reactions? What do you think? Use the insights from Evans to answer Question number 7 and describe how you see “money-making” today.
These people are talking about marketing on the social media networking in the process of making money through the emerging technologies. These people note the main opportunity presented to the society through adoption and implementation of the social networking platforms thus facilitating the concept and processes of marketing. Like the case of Evans in the get ready to be a salesman, social media or networking platforms offer the opportunity for individuals to make money through interactions and improved coverage. According to these people, the main objective or purpose for the adoption of the social media and networking services should be making money, thus the preparation for the society members to be salesmen or sales persons (Evans, 2010).
I think this should be a bright idea in the enhancement of growth and development within the economy because of improvement coverage. Technology characterizes modern society thus the need to incorporate technology in the management and execution of activities such as money-making. This is a money-making society thus the need to integrate social networking platforms as concepts of advertisements in the process of generating money for the investors. The modern society members should embrace technology in making money thus application of the social media networking such as illustrated in the above discussion (Evans, 2010).
Social media offers the opportunity for individuals to interact cheaply and constantly like in the past generations. Most of the individuals in the modern society have embraced social media or social networking platforms such as facebook, twitter, and YouTube. This makes it essential for the money makers to focus on targeting the individuals on the social networking platforms. This will contribute towards the increase in the level of income or revenues thus extensive utilization of the social media design in the form of social networking platforms (Evans, 2010).
