Lessons Learned
After reading Chapter 1 one was able to understand the definition of what organizational behavior. According to Colquitt, Lepine & Wesson organizational behavior” is a field of study devoted to understanding, explaining, and ultimately improving the attitudes and behaviors of individuals and groups in organization” (Colquitt, Lepine & Wesson, 2012 p. 7). Secondly, one is able to understand the two primary outcomes in the studies of organizational behavior: job performance and organizational commitment among the staff. Organizational mechanism, group mechanism, individual mechanism and group mechanism are some of the factors that affected the two primary OB outcomes. The chapter explained why firms that are good at OB tend to generate more profit due to the fact that OB affects the level of motivation and commitment among the staff members (Colquitt, Lepine & Wesson, 2012). The chapter explains that OB can be studied through the use of scientific theories. OB is collections of assertions both verbal and symbolic (Colquitt, Lepine & Wesson, 2012). Therefore, have related variables through which data can be collected through the use interviews, observation, research reviews and others. In brief, OB theories formulate hypothesis, collect data, analyzed and finally tested data collected. Finally, the chapter helps one understand how correlations is interpreted in OB.
