The Questions due are as follows:
An outline is essential to creating a clear and organized PowerPoint that fulfills the assignment requirements. Students who use outlines tend to do much better in their assignments than students who do not. Thus, this part of the Final PowerPoint Presentation outline is intended to assist you in writing a thesis statement, organizing the presentation, and demonstrating how the research and your claims connect.
Here are your instructions:
Construct a title
Write your thesis statement
Place your thesis statement as the first sentence at the top of your outline
Write an introductory statement that includes:
A preview of what you will cover in your PowerPoint
A segue into the PowerPoint body
Write what claims you are espousing from your thesis statement
This requires breaking the thesis statement down and defining what it means and what the points are. These points are called your claims.
Support each claim with research
Write a few words on how this research connects to the claims and PowerPoint thesis
Write a conclusion statement, which includes a short summary
Outlines are written using either incomplete sentences or complete sentences (you can choose)
Use correct grammar
Do include citations, so you can refer back to your research
The outline should be 3-5 pages in length
Use the APA style wherever you include citations
It is not necessary to include a reference page
HINT: Remember you need to show that you have learned about diversity, ethics, critical thinking, and communication with regard to this topic.
My topic and expounding are below:
verpopulation and the impact on over-consumption of resources and products
COLLAPSE
M3D3
My theme from my M2A1 assignment was overpopulation. My request would be that I pursue overpopulation with regards to overconsumption. Basically, I want to demonstrate how humans take more than the earth can replenish, whether it be in food, natural resources, the sun, etc. This plays into desertification – which is the overkilling and chopping down of trees and not replenishing this resource and homelessness in a non-traditional sense. By homeless ness, for this discussion it is not the lack of a home, but the reality that we have too many people in one area, and we don’t have the lack of resources – such as homes, jobs, etc. to keep the world moving forward. For this exercise then my specific topic will be the theme of overpopulation and how it affects our world – earth, resources, space, homes, jobs, food and those around us.
We tend to think of overpopulation as a country specific issue, when the reality is it is worldwide. Our world is such that we tend to move to areas where there are jobs, economy and housing. The reality is this puts a strain on so many things. Environmentalists are very concerned about the limited resources that are threatened by the human population. The biggest threat on top of what I have stated above is the lack of fresh, clean water. If water is gone, there is no species, no life. Think of the current situation in California. Now, we understand that weather conditions cycle, and over the last few years, we have seen extremes, of hot, cold, rain, snow and drought. Freshwater is what sustains us all. Only 3% of the world’s water resources are from freshwater, while the rest is saltwater.
Along with the management of water, comes the management of waste. Handling waste and the public health issues that surround not handling it cause as big of a problem in growing urban areas as it does in third world countries. Statistics from the United Nations shows that one in seven goes to bed hungry each day; recently the statistic in the US alone is one in five. Over 25,000 people die each day from malnutrition and hunger related disease. Food distribution and production just can’t keep up with our population as it grows, nor can we sustain the rate of use over time. Over one billion people lack access to sufficient water for use. The world’s clean water supply is scarce.
As I reread my paper for last week, I debated and continued to see that there was more need to talk about these specific things. We tend to oversimplify, and the reality is that there is such a problem with these basic issues that lead back to the larger theme of overpopulation. We have to think about these things on a worldwide basis, not just a US, or Europe or Atlanta vs LA. Human behavior as we know plays a huge role in determining the survival of the population. By using our behaviors, we can create and expand our quality of life. These ideas and thoughts however differ from country to country let alone worldwide.
In this paper, I hope to be able to review and expound on these differences found around the world. I also hope to evaluate and discuss how different countries with financial issues, or no wherewithal to develop programs and insight, can get help from others, or how a few can teach a few, that can multiply and then teach a society. Ethics in this realm is very interesting. There are those who are anti-anything having to do with the environment, and those who believe religiously that God put us on this earth and we have to be a good steward of the world and take care of ourselves and everything around us.
For this exercise, I will find more research, as well as read past articles about what was predicted for the 21st century, versus reality. The UN and the World Health Organizations along with the US Dept. of State and CDC have much to read on these issues. At the same time, groups such as National Geographic and other nature groups have a great deal of scientific research to review.
This topic is certainly out of my traditional realm of interest. This exercise and ultimately the final project takes me to a level, which I haven’t reviewed in detail. I have some basic thoughts and understanding but will need to continue to pursue more. From an oral communication perspective, I will have to teach myself the correct pronunciation of these ideas and words, as they are not part of my vernacular. My professor has asked me to also address the following:.how would you describe the core ethical issue that emerges from the topic of overpopulation?
