Personal Narrative
It all started on Monday morning, when I was in a biology class. I had left home early because I did not want to miss this lesson the way I did the previous week. I was with my friend, Rita, in class. I asked my friend how she had spent her weekend and then I began to feel a tingling feeling in my throat. I ignored the feeling. My lecturer arrived a few moments later and the lesson commenced. He was dressed in his usual Monday morning outfit. Sometimes, I wondered whether he had only one outfit, or he just liked the outfit that he made several samples of the same. It was obvious that he could not repeat the same outfit because he was a senior lecturer with a fat pay. The lesson was quite exciting, but the tingling feeling that I felt in my throat started to get worse. I started to cough mildly in class and had a feeling of inflammation on my throat and the coughing increased.
“Are you alright?” Rita asked. “Yes, am okay. It is just a mild cough.” I replied. She helped me with a soviet. “You can have this for now”, She said. “Thank you”.
The bell rang, and we walked to the sports ground. I would cough continuously until Rita told me to go and see a doctor. We were supposed to go for a sports training in the pitch, but I had to call it off. I told the rest of my friends that I would not accompany them in the training exercise, and went home. “Please make sure that you tell your parents about this, and you have to see a physician, have a nice day,” Rita said. “I will Rita. Thank you”. I replied while I left the training grounds. I felt weak while I was walking. I had never had such an experience before. My hands were sweating, and my throat was burning. I did not know what to do next. I took the soviet that Rita had given me, and blew my nose so hard that the passersby could hear me. I knew that a terrible virus had infected me. The question that I kept on asking myself was “What could this be? I had been quite healthy the whole weekend then suddenly this Monday begins with disaster?” I asked myself. I had always been scared of diseases, and I knew that this time I would not escape.
I was quite exhausted when I arrived home. I found my mother preparing dinner. She was surprised to see me at home so early because I had told her earlier in the morning that I would attend a training exercise in school. I informed her that I was not feeling okay and that my day was not quite fine. “What is wrong sweet heart, and why have you come so early today? She asked. “I have not been feeling well today mum”. I said. “I have been coughing in class the entire day”, I continued. My mum had prepared my favorite meal, chicken, but I hardly had a craving for the meal because I was in a deep pain. My mum noticed that too. “Come on sweety, come closer to me, what is this evil that has attacked you, my dear? She said, “Do not worry, I will find out soon”.
She held me on her arms and told me that I would be okay. Moments later, my father arrived home. He arrived when the situation had gotten worse, and I could hardly breathe. I felt more inflammation in my throat, and my chest was burning. “For how long has this happened?, my father asked. “It started this morning while I was in class. It was mild at the beginning, but later turned worse in the evening. I had no choice but to come home.”I replied in a low yet weak tone. The pain and inflammation that I felt running down my throat could hardly give me a chance of speaking clearly. I was exhausted and sweating all over. My shirt was wet with sweat. My father was shocked to realize this, and he insisted that we go to a nearby hospital before the condition could worsen. I changed my clothes and went straight to the hospital without hesitation.
When we got to the hospital, we had to wait for the doctor because there were other patients on the line. The hospital was quite calm and cool with a bright and a colorful background. It must have been one of the best hospitals in town. The doctor directed us to his office, where I was diagnosed. He took samples of my blood and saliva and tested it. We had to wait for some hours before we could get the results. Once the results were out, the doctor told me that I had contacted Bronchitis. He gave me medicine and told me to stay indoors until I would be healed.
