Paper 2 (Personal responsibility and social responsibility) Write a short paper researching the source of campaign donations
from political action committees to a member of Congress. Outline the findings and evaluate the degree to which such donations
influence the electoral and political process. Students are urged to use www.votesmart.org and the think about the following
questions. What were the top five contributors? How much money was raised and how much spent on the most recent
campaign? Does there appear to be a link between contributors and the committees your representative is currently serving on?
Has the representative introduced any legislation that would appear to benefit the campaign contributors? Has the member
served his/her constituency? Student will need to examine and identify the demographics of the member’s constituency.
Additional information is available at census.gov and opensecrets.org. Students will each be assigned a United States Senator
or member of the U.S. House by instructor. Three typed pages. Use Times New Roman type, double-spaced, 1” margins all
around. Title page and reference page are not included in page requirement. No abstract required. Use of APA style required.
Minimum of three sources required. Further instructions will be provided. (Do not use first person in any research paper. Use of
third person is a much more effective persuasive way to communicate. Examples will be provided
