Persuasion
- The inaugural address by the late president John F. Kennedy was a speech that brought into focus significant values and views of the community. He persuaded the citizens of America to become part of his team and back him were he struggled for them. Kennedy flattering the audience, made repetition of his words which brought people together. Through proper planning of the speech, Kennedy was in a good position to move the reader on several matters of importance.
Kennedy in his speech was able to commend his listeners and demonstrated that he thinks greatly of them; He stated “For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty…” meaning that he was of the belief that they were able to transform the world. This acknowledgment and gratification aroused positive state of mind from his listeners and created a proper persona for him (Avalon, 2008). In his speech Kennedy placed the listeners in a situation that turning down what he brought across would be quite unpatriotic, “in your hands… will rest the final success or failure…”
The speech is effective in that it is able to bring people together. The speech was able to unite the country by using parallelism. The use of the word “we” in repetition emphasized the indication of America being a country of one people. Kennedy’s selection of word choice in putting out his stand on matters present placed the audience in a circumstance where they found it hard to turn down. He stated that, “United, there is little we cannot do in a host of co-operative ventures. Divided… not meet a powerful challenge..” the significance of bringing people together was fundamental and that a separation would be futile. Kennedy was able to acquire control and get support of the audience using his compliments.
- Advertisements on the Ivory Soap have had a great persuasion in purchasing the product. The promoter has connected Ivory Soap with the acquisition of various advantages which are significant to clients: it is fresh and strong appearance for ladies, a mild, nonirritant technique for washing little children, and a novelty for kids in the bath tub, considering that it floats. The advantages related to the product bring more reason to purchase the soap and use it and hence issues the ground for persuading clients. It hence that for a realization of advertisement, this technique of persuasion has to be used.
The advertisement based on the Ivory Soap was a strong and persuasive form of communication. The advertisement influenced more to my emotions than intellect. The information conveyed to me by the advertisement processing of the information acquired which was sequenced by its assessment, the source from which it was acquired and consequently the desirability of the product. This procedure is as a result of the creation of attitudes, the advancement of intentions for prior steps to be taken and consequently the action to be taken. The varied features of advertisements however have contrasting impact at the varied points of purchase.
Considering that advertising has the ability to bring about the awareness, inform and persuade an individual onto purchasing a product, it is however a technique that puts in place a complicated scheme. It is hence as a result of this that every promotion does not have its desired impact on the client. Clients are hence known to purchase products on the basis of false information which is brought about by the need to acquire profit. Clients are hence duped into buying products based on their emotions and not their intellect. On the other hand, the genuine products continue to suffer as a result.
