These essays have two major components

1. A concise and relevant outline of the primary text (for

instance Dewey).

2. A critical assessment (your “reaction”) to the text.

There are many ways to provide this assessment. You

may for example apply on specific aspect of his

argument to a current or historical political event. You

may even choose a fictional setting (a film, a novel,

etc.) The goal is to demonstrate your grasp of the

primary text and your ability to apply it judiciously.
