Essay Structure: Your essay needs to have a clear introduction, supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion. I would not recommend asking questions in the introduction. Instead, you could introduce your topic with a short anecdote or present general information/knowledge about the topic you are describing. Please refer to page 53 in your textbook to review some sample introductions. Since this is a descriptive essay, your thesis will express the dominant impression about the topic of your choice. The rest of the essay should provide descriptive details that support and concentrate around that dominant impression. Please make sure you use vivid and descriptive language and images as you try to support the thesis. Include transitions as necessary for a better cohesiveness of your ideas. The essay needs to end with a conclusion that provides a sense of completeness. Please make sure you do not simply just summarize your essay in the concluding paragraph. You can perhaps suggest some future outcomes (make predictions), provide solutions, or allude to something new, unusual or different about your topic. For some conclusion samples, please refer to page 55. For more detailed instructions on using description as a pattern of development, refer to pages 75-86.
