prepare a short audio visual resource (powerpoint, prezi, etc) addressing the issue of differentiation (teaching in a split level class, such as a grade 3/4 classroom or a 1/2 classroom) in mathematics education in the primary school. You will illustrate your understanding of differentiation with one of the following topics: place value, multiplication and/or division, patterns and algebra,shape, location and transformation, chance, data representation and interpretation.
You will then write a narrative report on what you were trying to achieve with your audio visual resource and the research basis for this.
Part 1 (500 words equivalent)
Prepare a short (3 to 5 minute) audio visual resource addressing a key issue in your topic and aimed at a specific adult audience: students in initial teacher education, teachers, parents, school management, policy makers.
Part 2 (Approximately 1500 words)
Individually, write an essay giving the background to your AV resource. This should include:
– The key messages you are trying to convey about differentiation in mathematics teaching and learning in the primary school
– An elaboration of the illustration of differentiation with respect to the topic you have chosen
– An evaluation of the choice of audience
– The research base of your argument
