Many works in the science fiction and fantasy genres address universal themes/archetypes such as the role of technology, corruption, cruelty, fear, sacrifice, etc.
Choose a theme/archetype and use it to compare two works of science fiction/fantasy. One of your selections should be a work of literature. The other can be from literature or another medium such as film, television, comic strips, game worlds, manga, etc. Works selected must be approved by the instructor if they are not on the Recommended Reading and Media List.
Your paper must include:
An effective introduction including a thesis that identifies the theme/archetype.
Body paragraphs that:
Support the thesis.
Analyze how the theme/archetype is supported in two works (with examples). The analysis should address how each work uses character development, plot, style, tone, and setting to support or convey the theme/archetype.
Discuss what each work says or implies about society, including a discussion of the work’s historical context.
An effective conclusion.
Effective transitions.
