Research review, Film Critique -The Titanic (2012) by James Cameron
The Titanic (2012) is a remake of the famous original from the last century. The earlier version was a product from 1997 which had made use of the 4K resolution technology. This recent movie has changed the format to accommodate the new 3D technology. The movie is still under the direction of the original producer. James Cameron has strived to ensure that the success of the re-release of the movie is similar to the original. This has been possible at least through the sales and awards that the movie has achieved. The release of the move was in April 4, 2012 immediately becoming a favorite with the fans (Newswire, 5). However, the movie provided challenges during the period of production. This is mainly because the movie was able to use at least use 18$ million in the production. However, the movie has provided more revenue than the expenses and, therefore, is easily under the classification of success.
The main theme of the movie is love. The actions of the characters are all based on love and the conflict that happens when love occurs. The final message is supposed to be that true love conquers a point which is well conveyed by the characters. The fact that she agrees to his plea not to commit suicide in spite of him being a stranger creates the sign of a special bond. Also, she falls in love with him in spite of being engaged to Carl. She meets him on the last day that the Titanic was going to be existent where they have some unique last moments. The fact that they survive death scares from Carl, and finally they choose to die together shows the strong love that they had for each other. Therefore, the characterization of the movie explains vividly the love that that was so strong, that it could only be halted by a natural cause.
The Titanic is a dedication to all the lovers who are willing to watch a movie about faithfulness and other virtues. Also, the movie serves as an example to people who are willing to get in love as it sets clear guidelines on this. Jack shows the virtue of selflessness when he decides to sacrifice his life for the sake of his lover’s (Le Salle, 15). Consequently, Rose maintains faithfulness even after he is long dead. The movie, therefore, acts as expert advice for anyone in love. This is mainly the married people who should embrace the value of faithfulness to each other. The other audience for the movie is the dating people whose advice to them is to follow their hearts just like Rose does when choosing Jack over Carl. The movie’s production also targets the teenagers through its visuals. This explains why the movie is in the 3D technology. This technology offers high levels of display quality which is a favorite amongst many young people.
The main teaching from this movie is that true love conquers. Titanic sets to explain that there is nothing as strong as true love, and no single factor can break this bond. This is explained through the characters of Rose and Jack who have to defeat so many obstacles to finally find happiness for themselves (Le Salle,16). The virtue of faithfulness is echoed throughout the movie with some instances where only that would be helpful. Also, the movie shows cases of sacrifice. Jack is willing to die if only his lover will survive. The value of fighting for a person’s own belief is also enhanced through the determination of the two characters in achieving their dreams. The movie also depicts cry for change in the moral fabrication of the current society. There are so many cases of infidelity and thus the virtues that are depicted in the movie could come in handy for this cause.
This movie is unquestionably a beneficial watch that I would advice my friends and family to watch. This is because of its challenge to the moral fabric of society. It is time that people learnt the values of a good relationship and why it is essential to maintain them. The movie shows that the only way love can be achieved is through the dedication of both. The relationship between Carl and Rose fails because she is not committed. However, she becomes an instant match with Jack because of the faithfulness that they both have to each other. This movie would, therefore, be of assistance to my friends. The setting of the movie is not vulgar and thus would be suitable for family viewing. Therefore, it would also be an excellent source of entertainment with the effects that it has which any member of the family would feel comfortable with. The movie is set in 3D technology and thus makes up a setting which is a teal beauty to the eye (Times, 23). Therefore, both adults and children are comfortable and well entertained by the movie.
