Revitalizing Bermuda
Summary of the critical problems of Bermuda
Bermuda is an Island that is located in the Atlantic Ocean. Because of this reason, Bermuda has attracted many tourists from all over the world to come and experience the good breeze and the nature of the land. However, in the past few years, the Island experienced several problems which severely affected it environment and habitants including the people who live on it. These problems really affected the entire society of Bermuda and were a threat to the visitors who had expectations of visiting the Island. The problems that Bermuda experienced over a long time made the tourists who were visiting there to stop and move to other tourist attracting center.
The problems of Bermuda largely affected the citizens who reside in the Island and also the entire population including even the neighboring countries. Pollution was also a major threat to the entire population of the people of Bermuda since it lead to the destruction of the water habitants making the water to be impure for use by the people and the industries. After the problems increased to abnormal levels, the government of Bermuda had to take immediate measures to solve the arising issues. The entire society had to combine forces with the government and the neighboring communities in cleaning Bermuda Island (Boniface & Cooper, 2009).
The key problems that really affected the environment and the people of Bermuda were both natural and man made. The man made problems could be controlled easily by the citizens in combination with the government since they were simple to avoid. The key factors that affected both the people and the environment of Bermuda include the energy crisis, the freely emission of carbon monoxide and green house gases to the environment and improper deposition of waste material in the Atlantic Ocean and the land of Bermuda. Lack of land has also been a major problem to the people living on Bermuda Island.
Factors contributing to the problems
The first and major factor that contributed to the problems that are discussed and affected the Island of Bermuda is the improper governance by the leaders. The government of the citizens of Bermuda was made up of corrupted official members whose main intention was to acquire property from the country instead of ruling the people in a genuine way. For this reason, a lot of property of Bermuda was majorly destroyed, exploited and misused by the government officials and foreigners who cared less about the other citizens. Because of lack of strict regulations that would be used to govern the society, most people did want they thought was right (Boniface & Cooper, 2009). For instance waste materials and chemicals from industries were deposited into the ocean without ant caution or warning from the government. Continues deposition of this waste increased diseases and pollution of the air and the water.
Another factor that contributed in the problems affecting the island of Bermuda is the fact that the there was an increase in the population of the citizens. The population of Bermuda Island rapidly increased because it was uncontrolled. The government was unable to give measures that could control the birth rate of the children. Because of this reason, more land and the available resources was polluted because of lack of a centralized government. The garbage that was thrown all over by the increased population destroyed the environment thus discouraging tourists from visiting the island.
Another factor that also contributed in the rising problems that affected Bermuda is the fact that it is an island. The pollution of the land and the water which is adjacent to the people is very easy. Pollutants such as chemicals and unwanted solid materials are easily deposited in the water. For the reason that Bermuda is an Island has attracted more people in settling and living there. This has attracted a lot of people from all over the world making the region to be densely populated. The fact that Bermuda is an island, also led to increased problems for its own economy. The space of land to accommodate the people is less compared to the population of people found in it.
An extra factor that contributed to the problems that are discussed and affected the Island of Bermuda is the poor infrastructure and resources that Bermuda Island had. The Bermuda Island had improper structures and poorly constructed roads and social amenities which were used by the tourists. This discouraged both the tourists and the local citizens from moving from one place to another. The poor roads and other social amenities like game parks were poorly managed by the government and the people hence ended up being destroyed after a short period of time. Poor communication and transport facilities also discouraged the tourists from exploring other parts of the island (Sharma, 2005). They preferred staying in one specific place rather than moving around the island without proper security.
Management actions taken
Several management actions were taken to rectify the various problems that had affected both the tourist and the entire community of the people of Bermuda. The main action that was taken to make sure that all the problems of the island were corrected is the identification of corrupt members of the government. These members were then sucked and thrown out from office. Heavy penalties and fines were bailed against them. Some of them were even sent into prison to be an example to the rest of the new officials who still had the wrong intentions of attaining power to stress other people especially the less fortunate in the society. After election of new leader in the society of Bermuda, a lot of change was observed and proper management of the available resources by both the local citizens and the tourists was established under new regulations and authorities.
Another action that was taken into consideration to correct the problems that affected the island of Bermuda was putting strict rules and penalties to industries and individuals who polluted the environment in any form. Companies which deposited waste materials into the Atlantic Ocean were required to treat the waste and purify it to make it less harmful to the people and living organism found in the water. This made the entire society of Bermuda to become cleaner and attract more tourism to visit and explore it (Huybers, 2007). Individuals who were found polluting the environment were also fined heavily and given punishments of cleaning the island.
More advanced and improved infrastructure was also constructed to rectify the transport problems which had affected the economy of the country by discouraging tourists from visiting the island. More technology was implemented in the construction policy to make sure both the local citizens and the tourists enjoyed the services which were being offered by the government. This eventually attracted more tourists who had interests in touring and exploring the land.
Recommendations
Tourism is a vital and imperative aspect in the welfare of any given country. Therefore there is a need for the government of the island of Bermuda to review its policies for the essence of improvement on the economical sector. The first recommendation that the government should implement is the improvement of the infrastructure. More and advanced infrastructure should be build to be able to accommodate the rise in the number of the population of the people of Bermuda Island (Sharma, 2005). More modern houses should be built for the citizens of the Bermuda Island in the urban areas.
The second recommendation that the government of Bermuda Island should take into consideration for the purpose of making the area a new and good place for the entire society of its citizens is by finding a way of recycling the waste material that is disposed nearly all over the place. The solid materials and plastic materials should be recycled and used to make other new products that might be useful to the society (Boniface & Cooper, 2009). This will reduced the pollution of the Bermuda Island and makes it a more admiral place for the tourists.
Another recommendation that should be taken into consideration by the Bermuda society is the introduction of new policies that govern the local citizens. The policies should be majorly concerning the government and its officials. The new policies should be implemented so that any member of the government who goes against any one of them is thrown out of office. These policies will figure it easy for the making of proper and sober decisions especially concerning the tourists and the local citizens (Huybers, 2007).
