Ursula Le Guin was born in 1929. She is an accomplished writer of fiction stories. Science fiction is a form of imaginative writing with more or fewer writings of the future, aliens and space travel. The purpose of science fiction is to explore results of science innovation. Writers use fiction to discuss ideas on philosophy, identity and morality. Writing on science fictions is mostly used to write about imaginary alternative worlds.
Science fiction is advantageous in main stream fiction for discovering possibilities for change socially. It allows fresh presentation of ideas; it also allows a writer to make, and a reader to feel and experience a different world. Artists talk to readers on what they know, and de familiarizes what readers think they know. Utopia fiction is the development of an ideal community in a novels setting. Dystopian fiction is a creation of a dysfunctional or horrible community. They are used to describe different routes humans take to end in possible futures. They are both commonly used in science and speculative fiction.
The American author Le Guin is an author of children books, poems and short stories. Her first work was published in 1960. Her work has been described as imaginary or futuristic or imaginary. She writes fiction on gender, religion, sexuality among other things. Her biggest influence was from J.R.R. Tolkien, Phillip Dick, Leo Tolstoy and Bronte sisters. Le Guin explores creative flexibility of fiction and fantasy. Le Guin work basis on sociology, psychology and anthropology. Le Quin is so well informed in social science and takes on race and gender intentionally. Frequently she uses people of color and alien culture to explore the structural behavior of culture, society and its impact on people. Le Guin work encouraged many women to become writers of fiction. Before the publication of her book The Left Hand of Darkness, women did not write fiction. Her work inspired many women to write fiction using androgyny concept. The concept before this had been dominated by men. Her book the disposed published in 1974 shows a return of utopia. The book describes the existence of a society in the moon. The novel provides utopian and non utopian options for the cast. The novel also provides a comparison of a utopian and non utopian society. Le Guins work has been used for film and television programs. The lathe Heaven one of her novels has been used twice for movies in 1897 and 1980. In 1980, she was approached by director Hayao Miyazaki to develop an animation of her movie Earthsea that she refused. Le Guin later accepted the proposal after the director directed My Neighbor Totoro. Her earlier refusal was because she was not familiar with the director’s work
She has refused to join digitization of books by Google. Her decision made her resign from her membership in Authors guild. She argues that it is not possible for people to stop reading print work. Her other concern is that the only company doing this is goggle; she would not have a problem if there were more companies. The first reason she gives may be misinformed. Technology is quickly taking over. One would opt to read the summary of a book or other web links than read a whole book. Very few people are willing to take time to read a book to the end. Technology is here to stay, and she should be able to embrace technology being a fiction writer.
