Simulation for research and development activities
Introduction
Simulation is significant in designing and evaluating the effectiveness of products in the workplace. Simulation has different meanings depending on the context of its definition and for a computer scientist; it refers to the act of imitating some real object leading to transition (Tahar & Adham, 2010). The imitation always occurs in the quest of achieving a mission that relates to the already existing thing. Use of simulation will help the organization in achieving activities such as innovation and invention process. Every organization is always in need for a constructive experience related to process it would like to carry bringing the need for appropriate simulator. The use of a simulator helps the organization reduce on the cost of owning the real object for the required process. This article discusses how two organizations, Motorcycle manufacturer and University research department, could apply simulation in designing and manufacturing sports motorbikes and investigating human behavior in emergency evacuation events respectively. Their problem areas are regarding the physical comfort of the motorbikes and ensuring a positive cost effective transfer of training respectively.
The use for the simulators normally involves crucial steps that the organizations would have to follow before achieving the ultimate result. The organizations would have to determine the simulator type that would fit the whole design while solving the problem effectively. There are different types of simulators with specification in the simulation field. This includes automobile simulator, biomechanics simulator, city and urban simulation, engineering, technology or process simulation, equipment simulation among others with each depending on its use (Tahar & Adham, 2010). The appropriateness of the simulator will depend on the cost and the expertise form needed in the operation. Some simulators need little expertise and experience while some are easy to operate. The organization will also need a simulator that is not expensive in order to maintain their production quantity. The simulation used should involve the use of ordinary equipments that are readily available and easy to use.
During the simulation process, there is a need to maximize on the data that the subject simulator would generate. This can only happen after choosing appropriate simulator that does not leave out information about the real thing. The simulator should have a direct resemblance to the existing object in order to achieve expected results. For instance, the motorcycle manufacturer needs a simulator that would help in achieving a physical comfort of motorbikes. The manufacturer will need the help of Automobile Simulator since this will provide information about the physical comfort of motorbikes but in a virtual environment (Tahar & Adham, 2010). The automobile simulator will provide information about the condition useful in achieving a comfort for the drivers. In the second instance, the university research department would like to put up investigation about the emergency events. Simulation is crucial in this area, especially the use of Disaster or Emergency Preparedness and Simulation Training (Tahar & Adham, 2010). This simulator help in replicating the emergency events with subsequent tracking on the way the students react. The emergency preparedness works under the basis of realistic experience. The article presents the constituents of the two simulators that will be useful to the respective organizations and lists the difference between the simulators.
