The new consumer in a socially connected marketplace
The decade will have technological connectivity which will transform the behavior of people and businesses. There is no doubt that we are going to form more communities and relationships in a variety of new ways because of the elimination of geographical constraints. The distinction between local and global communities is going to blur to even more thanks to the phenomenon of the web.
Similarly, the Internet and mobile technologies will create a new market transparency that will radically change the way business is done. As such, there is going to be no guesswork of who does what, where, when and for how much. Tracking and monitoring of both businesses and consumers is going to grow to unprecedented levels. Furthermore, individuals will find the power to participate and make decisions on complex issues become of information would have become more immediate and pervasive.
In addition, there is going to be paradigm shift in the market power – the consumer will become more powerful both locally and domestically. Similarly, small businesses will have more tremendous opportunities both here and abroad (Intuit 2020 Report, nd). This is due to the fact that there will be economic growth in developing countries coupled with the growth of mobile access to global markets.
