sociology of gender

I’m taking Sociology of Gender class, please use any sources that related to the subject or the required textbooks below to answer the questions. Each answer require at least 300 words, and at least one reference.
Kimmel, Michael S. The Gendered Society 4th Edition. New York: Oxford University Press 2009.
Kimmel, Michael S. and Amy Aronson. The Gendered Society Reader 4th Edition. New York: Oxford University Press 2010
1. Why is it important to make gender visible to both women and men? How does gender privilege tie into this idea? Use the text and the article to answer these questions.
2. Why do biological explanations of gender ring so true to us? Which of the explanations presented in the textbook did you find to be the most convincing? Did the authors’ assessment of the explanation change your initial response? Why or why not?
3. How do our ideas of masculinity and femininity shape our ideas of homosexuality? How does our research on the brain and the gay gene reflect this? Would any research done on the subject be able to be unbiased with the rampant preconceived notions of what it means to be male or female? Why or why not?
4. In “Men as Women and Women as Men” the author looks at the variances in sex and gender across cultures. Describe each variance (hermaphrodites, transsexuals, transvestites) using the examples given from the reader. With the extent of variance that exists, why do we insist upon the idea that there are only two sexes, two sexualities, and two genders in our society?
5. The term “fag” can be seen as a sort of policing device among boys to ensure that boys remain conformists to gender norms. Does this term refer to ones sexuality or is it simply a phrase that serves to identify one as stupid, incompetent, etc.? How do you come to your conclusion? Looking at the article “Sugar and Spice”, we see girls resisting gender norms and expressing anger and aggression more readily. What are some of the ways that girls express aggression that you’ve seen or read in this article? Would teaching girls to be assertive and to protect themselves help this social issue? Why or why not?
