You are going to teach a unit in football to sixth graders. What knowledge or types of information about that sport would you include in that unit? Why? What additional information would you include if you were teaching 9th graders? Why?
In teaching football unit to sixth graders, it is crucial to provide basic information on the terms and rules of the game. The unit should focus on elaborating what football is all about thus introducing terms like offense, tries, defenses, and touchdowns. This will provide the students with critical idea on what to expect when they battle to the filed for the first time in the process of enhancing their health conditions. It is also ideal to enhance the ability of the sixth grade students through emphasizing on the need to participate in sports thus the development of attitude and sports. Through knowledge of the concepts and rules of the game, sixth graders will have idea on how football is played and develop interest in the process. This will be essential for their socialization. At this stage, the unit should focus on fun aspect of the game to develop interests. In teaching the unit of football to the ninth graders, it is essential to top the concepts, rules, and other relevant information of football with elementary skills. This is because ninth graders have basic knowledge of the game, it will be ideal to work on their physical fitness and effective application of skills valuable for the game.
People tend to attribute their successes and failures to various causes. After a game, you overhear your son attributing their loss to lack of ability. What type of attribution is lack of ability? The team lost by a slim margin in the last few seconds of a game to an opponent of essentially equal ability; that is your analysis. However, this was the team’s third loss in a row. What would you say or do with regard to their attributions? Why?
Lack of ability attribution refers to relatively internal and stable factors that are beyond the direct control of an individual. These factors contribute towards success or failure of an individual in relation to the context of application. For instance, some people are deemed to succeed in playing football because of their inner factors or techniques thus the essence of ability. In case of three consecutive losses for the team, it would be essential to focus on illustration of the concept of efforts. The effort attribution refers to internal and unstable factors that the players enjoy great control of in the event of playing the game. Through extra effort, the players have the ability to change results over a given period. Three consecutive losses represent lack of efforts and some elements of luck in the process of playing the game.
Considerable research has been conducted regarding the socializing agents most likely to influence children’s socialization into sport and physical activity. Remember that socialization may be into or not into sport, and it may be into some sports or forms of physical activity and not into others. Reflect on your own socialization into sport and physical activity. Discuss the socializing agents who influenced both the nature and the extent of your participation. That is to say you should address all types of socializing agents and how they impacted your participation in sport. Biological and environmental factors play critical in the socialization of children into sports. Some of the sporting abilities are transferred from parents to children through genes (chromosomes). In that scenario, the child will develop interest in the game because of the biological background. Another socialization agent is media. Children develop interest in the game under great influence of other professionals they watch constantly on the media. Another socialization agent is school. Effective approach towards the sport by the teacher or the coach will have great influence on the development of interest or attitude of the child in relation to sport. Another socialization process or agent that enables children to participate in sports is the environment or peer influnce. If the child grows in an environment of many sportsmen, he or she will develop interests in order to belong to the group. This is because sporting activities act as bonding elements thus an opportunity to bring individuals together. Socialization process relates to three actual agents: experience, imitation, and learning. These factors or agents of socialization play critical role in the development of attitude, behavior, and personality of the child in relation to the sporting activity.
