All on-campus students will facilitate a weekly Talking Points presentation. This involves critiquing an allocated weekly reading to small groups of students. To complete this task you will need to:
• Describe the key arguments or main points raised in the Talking Point reading
• Discuss the strengths and/or weaknesses of the author’s key arguments or main points (not their writing style)
• Explain the implications of these key arguments or main points for public relations or media practice
• Draw your audience into a conversation about the reading (by asking them questions about topics raised)
You will be allocated 8 minutes to present your critique to other students. The entire time allocation should be used. You have the option to use slides (e.g. PowerPoint) on a tablet and laptop as a presentation aid. A schedule of student presentations and the readings you’ll be critiquing will be placed on CloudDeakin in week two. Presentations must take place on the allocated date.
Marks for your Talking Point session also take into consider how you engage with other students when they are presenting and more generally in class discussion. Accordingly, to receive a mark for this assessment you are required to attend a minimum of eight tutorials.
Weighting: 10% of unit mark
Due date: On-going, as per schedule
Submission: In seminars (tutorials) only (you are not required to submit speaker’s notes)
Marks and feedback: Provided in week 11
