The paragraph
The machinist uses a small stationary holding device called the machinist’s bench vice to grip the work securely when performing bench operations. It is essential for holding work pieces, when filling, sawing and clipping. This holding device about the size of a small grinding wheel and is always fastened to the workbench in a similar manner. A vice consists of a fixed jaw, a movable jaw, a screw, a nut fastened in the fixed jaw and the handle by which the screw is turned to position the movable jaw. For a firmer grip on heavy work, serrated faces are usually inserted. The jaws are made of cast iron and have removable faces of hardened tool steel. A smooth face is inserted to prevent marring the surface of certain work pieces. To protect soft metal or finished surfaces from dents and scratches, false lining jaws are often set over the regular jaws. These lining jaws can be made from paper, leather, wood, brass, copper or lead. In addition to the bench vice described here, there are many other varieties and sizes
Question 1
What clues in individual sentences helped you decide how to order the sentences?
The choice of words and the logicality entailed in joining the words availed the clue on how to arrange the sentences. The use of words such as the nouns and verbs in a sentence is relationally expected to pose a manifestation in the next sentence. The sentences can only be logical if they are arranged in the suitable order.
Question 2
When we worked out the exercise in a group, people had different perceptions with the exercise. Some never used the techniques mentioned as guidelines to the sequence of the answers and order of the sentences. Instead, guessed of some parts as joining automatically. The controversy arose on which sentence to use as the beginning and the one to use as the last sentence. A number also proposed that only the umbers were to be removed and the sentences to be joined. Eventually the group members came to an agreement of using the choice of words with some sentences. The sentences were used as the introductory of the main ideas to be talked of and others as the ending to form sensible sentences in the paragraph.
