Primary Source Analysis Paper: One of the most important things historians do is to read through original, or primary source, documents and look for understanding within them. You will have an opportunity to read one primary source document from history and write about it: The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. The Declaration can be found athttps://chnm.gmu.edu/revolution/d/295/. You can print the document off at home or to just read them online, but make sure you are able to get out of the sources what you need to in order to finish your papers. The paper should be roughly 2 – 3 pages long, double spaced. It is worth 50 points of your final grade.
Your essay should consider the following points and issues:
1. Summarize briefly in your own words the purpose of the declaration.
2. What choices did the participants have to make in order to address the issues therein?
3. How does the declaration represent one or more defining revolutionary characteristics?
4. If you were noble, why would you not like the treaty?
5. How similar was the declaration to the American Declaration of Independence?
6. What does this document teach you about the changes happening in the world at this time?(Europe in Transition 1300-1750, and Enlightenment and Revolution, 1700-1850)
Your paper will be graded as followed:
10 points: brief paragraph describing the document, including an underlined topic sentence
10 points: professionalism of the paper- few if any spelling errors, follows directions, readable, etc.
30 points: content – did you answer each question thoughtfully and fully.
