This structured literature review is about (the effectiveness of exercises on function for adult with shoulder impingement syndrome). The word count is 13000-14000. I have contacted my supervisor and agreed on some major points about the study (masters dissertation). She gave me an article as a guideline, but as you know there is no study like the other. However, the same sequences should be followed. This is the link for the example http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD004963.pub3/full
I have sent a draft of the background to the supervisor so far and I am expecting to get her comments on that and I need your help with that. As you know, the background is just an idea so I don’t that would affect starting from method section on.
For the method section, I had discussed some points about the inclusion and exclusion criteria and some subtitles. Which is:
Participants:
Studies of adult patients diagnosed with signs and symptoms of Shoulder impingement syndrome. 1- studies with participants with Stage 1 or 2 (stage three will be excluded) 2- Studies which included participants with painful/stiff shoulder associated with other diagnoses, e.g. frozen shoulder, will be excluded 3- postsurgical patient will not be included.
Interventions:
Any exercise intervention, which included loaded (against gravity or resistance) exercise or active free exercises (unloaded exercises) as a component. Combined interventions, e.g. exercise and electrotherapy or exercise and manual therapy, which do not enable a judgement about the comparative efficacy of exercise were excluded.
Outcomes:
Primary outcome: Any function outcome. Suchthe disability of the arm, shoulder and hand (DASH)
Secondary outcome: pain and strength
Subgroup analysis and investigation of heterogeneity.
Analyzing of subgroups will be separately included in this study as the following:
• Gender.
• Athletic or not.
• Duration and intensity of exercises.
• Sitting of the delivered interventions.
• Types of supervisions.
• Stages of SIS
• age
**********
It might need to be extended little more and also for the Primary outcome “function” the measurement will be consider are:
• The disability of the arm, shoulder and hand (DASH) and QuickDash
• The shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI)
• The western Ontario shoulder instability index (WOSI)
• The oxford shoulder score (OSS)
• The simple shoulder test (SST)
• The constant score (CS)
• The shoulder disability questionnaire (SDQ)
Those measurements are NOT fixed, you can add and take out, as you want if you think it’s going to be beneficial for the study, as you need to add some secondary measurements as well.
……………………….
You will understand all those points by just looking to the example article. The word count for this section (methods) is about 2000 words and if you needed to extend that bit more its ok.
After finishing the methods section, I will send it to the supervisor to get her feedback on that and do the changes she asks for. This process will be applied on every section.
Notes:
• The example contains schedules and graphs and you can find it in Figures and Tables tab on the same link.
• There is an application called RevMan 5you can download this app and it will help you organize the tables figures and even the whole study, the app is designed for Cochran database way for doing SLRs.
• After finishing the methods section, please send the all the RCTs you are going to include in this study so I can tell you if they eligible or not.
• You can find some similar SLRs might help you in writing or even finding RCTs.
• I am not English native speaker, so please ask me any question if you did not understand what I mean in some points.
