The Hunger Games
Once Katniss tells Gale she does not want to have children not only because of the Hunger Games but also the society they live and reside. The Hunger Games are dehumanizing and demoralizing. This is because little children are picked randomly to attend the games. The children are mostly in their teen or adolescent age. The dehumanizing factor about the games is that there is only one survivor. This means that the rest die due to the intensity of the competitions. This is one of the reasons why Katniss says she would not want to have children. However, the citizens of Panem continue to become parents because a child signify a sense of hope. The essence of hope is the thought that maybe there will be born the one responsible for bringing the change to the society. This is the thought that keeps the people of Panem giving a birth to children.
In the past, reality TV was indeed a significant factor. This is because most productions and series of the time utilized a monogamous debate. This means that the shows were featured on a one to one basis, due to the lack of effective technology. The past century also saw the growth of Reality TV as people had no insight to the survivor or competitive shows. Their thoughts were only concentrated on developing of the events , but the shows were focused on realities. Also, another additional factor why most of the shows were real is the society during the time. Through past centuries the society unified and acted as a unit. Socialism was a great example of people unification . The society was not differentiated or diversified. However, the 21st century has seen the raise of competitive shows and survival shows. This is because of a number of viable reasons. First, the advancement in technology has allowed people to switch to a digital transmission thus undermining monologue. This renders reality shows as a past case. Secondly, the society has become more diversified and differentiated compared to the past century. Individualism has sprout up, giving rise to different preferences. That is why shows such as survival or competitive ones appear. People are trying to show themselves in situations, where one has to fight or compete for something in the society. This explains the increase in competitive and survival shows.
There are some aspects of the culture, which we live in today, that are presented in the movie. The first one is greed and corruption of leaders. The movie shows how the leaders are self-centered and make money by dehumanizing people. This also happens in today’s society, where leaders are corrupt and self-centered. They amass the public wealth all to their selves. They diminish the core rights of human beings and induce wars against each other. This is common in developing countries, where the leaders would benefit the most. The second aspect is individualism. Just like in the movie, individualism is a usual trait of today’s culture. The movie shows that each person is left in order to survive in the jungle. Today’s culture utilizes the same theme, urging people to be individualistic because of degradation of social norms.
