Use the play “A Raisin in the Sun” themes. Write a 3-4 page analysis of an argument in your assigned play to which your assigned character substantially contributes. For this essay, your are required to do extensive research in scholarly, peer-reviewed journals in order to find two articles that make arguments about the role of your assigned character. Once you have become familiar with the opinions of others, you will use your essay to “join the conversation,” to contribute your own analysis and opinion of the play and that character’s role in the play’s argument. To do this, you will locate a theme that interests you, and you will determine what both the play and the articles say about that theme (review the “How Do You Write About Plays?” section in the Plays book; consider that a part of this assignment sheet). In short, you will answer this question: “What is this text saying about a specific theme beyond the literal (analyze, don’t summarize), and how do I know this?” Your answer to this question will be your thesis.
