The Melbourne Declaration

*****MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE IN-TEXT CITATIONS! I want to see all the references in the reference lists properly cited within the essay, i.e. if you have 10 references in the reference list, please make sure all the 10 references appear in the in-text citations!! And of course it shouldn’t count as part of the word counts! The essay I got today (another one) wasn’t cited properly and the word counts were less than what was specified! I spent 5 hours citing and modifying it! I can’t believe I paid $300 but still have to spend so much time editing it!!!

Instructions for this essay:

This assignment requires you to critically analyse a document (see over page) that is relevant to a learning site and that can be linked to considerations of ACARAs general capabilities. The critical analysis of the document should:

1. analyse how teachers/teaching and learners/learning are represented in these documents; and

2. discuss the implications of these representations for teachers’ planning and teaching and learners and learning (including considerations of pedagogy, curriculum and assessment). This discussion of implications should include consideration of what the document leads you to expect to see on your professional experience (infants and toddlers) placement.

For this assignment, critique and analyse:

The Melbourne Declaration: http://www.curriculum.edu.au/verve/_resources/National_Declaration_on_the_Educational_Goals_for_Young_Australians.pdf

You should develop a kind of thematic analysis where the document is searched for patterns in the ideas that are presented. This is a similar approach to dividing up an essay into key arguments and unpacking each in turn by drawing on supporting evidence (here, this would be evidence from the selected document and from relevant academic literature). You should also keep a keen eye out for any kinds of anomalies in the patterns you identify, dissonances or absences in the overall document and discuss those too. Sometimes what is not in a document is just as interesting and important as what is.

Marking criteria:

1. Identifies key aspects of an appropriate document

2. Draws on the document and relevant academic literature to explicitly discuss how learners/ learning/ teachers/ teaching are/is represented in the selected document and how representations may impact the nature of teaching and/or learning

3. Discusses the links between the representations and broader issues of teaching, learning and education (curriculum, pedagogy and assessment – with emphasis on issues related to one general capability) by drawing on relevant academic literature

4. Discusses the implications of the findings for your own emerging beliefs about learning and teaching, and teaching practice as a result of drawing on your professional experience, expectations of your professional experience, and/or other teaching/learning experiences.

5. The submitted task is free from spelling, grammatical and typographical errors. It is structured in a logical and cohesive manner. It meets the required length and complies with Australian academic rules and conventions. It is referenced through the consistent and accurate use of a recognised referencing convention.
