+The Review of Literature/term/research Paper.
1. Some topics will be based largely on secondary literature, whereas others will focus largely on primary evidence. You will need to meet with me to choose your topic; this meeting is a requirement of the course. A list of some possible topics appears at the end of the syllabus; for a list of recent student paper topic, check the website.
2. Undergraduate/Graduate Standards: Undergraduate papers should be a minimum of 12-14 pages whereas graduate papers should be a minimum of 20. A minimum of ten sources should be used by undergraduates; graduate students should have a minimum of fifteen.
3. Requirements:
a. Each student must make an appointment with me to choose a topic.
b. You must turn in a preliminary bibliography to me. You must use the form explained on the website. If you are late in meeting this deadline, points will be taken off the grade on your final paper.
c. You must turn in a detailed 1-2 page outline of your research paper (including a statement of a thesis) to me. If you are late in meeting this deadline, points will be taken off the grade on your final paper.
d. Research papers must have end notes and a complete bibliography. Your paper should follow the instructions for footnoting and bibliography on the Research section of the course web site. You will receive some additional instruction in class. In most cases web sources are not appropriate and can only be used if approved by me. Even with permission, only one web source can be used. The paper is due on April to Blackboard and in hard copy in class. See below for what happens if you paper is late.
