1) Write an essay that categorizes three or four different ways a specific group of people reacts to a particular circumstance. In “Three Ways of Meeting Oppression,” Martin Luther King details three different ways people react to oppression and claims that the only moral way to react is through nonviolent resistance. Consider how a specific group you are familiar with reacts to something particular. For example: three ways A-students react to a failing grade; three ways male freshmen go about asking someone on a date; three ways workers deal with a bad boss; three ways college students react to the freedoms of college. You must make an argument centered on your controlling idea; King’s controlling idea is “morality.” The essay will be developed with specific personal examples and observations. The essay must include a quote and a paraphrase that are put into context from King’s “Three Ways of Meeting Oppression.”
