Unusual and Extraordinary Animal Facts
Introduction
Almost every animal has its own unusual and extraordinary characteristic trait that makes it different from the other animal. In the entire universe, there are millions of animals and each of the animals is different from the other. The internal and external features of the animals are what makes the animals differ from one another. A close study of the animals reveals the hidden secrets of the animals and the unique capability of the animals (Paul, 2001). Most of the unusual and extraordinary traits are adapted from the environment. However, some animals are born with the characteristics. In all the animals, the unusual and extraordinary traits make the animal different and act as an added advantage to the rest of the animal family. Since the animals live in a similar ecosystem, it is vital for the each animal to have the unusual and extraordinary for survival benefits. In this paper, various animals’ unusual and extraordinary traits will be discussed in details.
One of the animals that are unique and different from the rest of the other animal family is the cat, which has various muscles that assists it to survive. The cat a key member in the cat family has 32 muscles in each ear that enable it to be very sensitive. The 32 muscles found in the years are a benefit to the cat as sensory organs (Taylor, 2007). An additional animal with the unusual and extraordinary is the cockroach which is believed to be capable of living several weeks without its head. Since the head of the cockroach is smaller than the rest of the body and plays minimal functions, the cockroach can survive without it for various weeks.
The giraffe, which is one of the tallest animals in the entire animal family, has unusual and extraordinary tongue 21-inches, which uses for diverse functions such as cleaning the ears and the eyes. Since the body of the giraffe is elongated, the animal has to adapt in using the tongue to clean the ears and the eyes. The hippo, which is a terrestrial and aquatic animal, is believed to be capable of opening its mouth wide enough to fit a 4-foot tall child inside (Best & Barnes, 2007). The hummingbird has an unusual and extraordinary trait of weighing less than a penny. The jellyfish, which spends it entire life in aquatic environment, has ninety-five percent of water in the body. The emperor moth is also an animal with an extraordinary characteristic of being capable of smelling a female moth, which might be almost 7miles away (Regan 2004).
In one night, the mole is believed to be capable of digging a tunnel that is three hundred feet long and a male pig has an orgasm that might last for almost 30 minutes (Pedersen, 2010). The shark, which is one of the largest fish, is capable of blinking with both eyes simultaneously. The porcupines are capable of floating in water because of the spiked body hence swimming with ease. An iguana is capable of staying under water for a maximum of twenty-eight minutes. The ostrich has an extraordinary trait in that its eyes appear to be bigger than the brains. A skunk is capable of spraying the body scent to more than ten feet away despite the small size of the animal (Jenkins & Page, 2003).
In the entire world, it is well identified that the human beings can be infected with leprosy; however, it has been found that the leprosy can also be infected to the armadillos. The young robin bird is capable of feeding to a 14 feet worm every day (Akerlof & Shiller, 2009). The camel, which is a desert based animal, is capable of protecting the eyes from the blowing sand since it has three eyelids. The urine of the cat is known to glow in black light while it is amazing that the droppings of the birds are one of the leading exports of the Nauru Island. The island is based in the western Pacific Ocean.
The cat and the dog, which are all in one family, are capable of consuming pet food worth seven U.S dollars per year. This is amazing since the two animals are the major pets of the human beings in the entire universe. The dolphin which is one of the leading marine mammals is capable of sleeping with an eye open to watch the predators and the pray. In the Australian coat of arm, the Emus and Kangaroos are significant since they cannot walk backwards. The nation decided to use the two animals to motivate the citizens. Giraffes in the animal family are one of the animals that lack a vocal cord. The honey making bees have hair in the eyes, which act as protection from pollen grains and other dirt (Wolfe, 2003). Birds cannot survive in space since they need gravity to assist in swallowing of both water and food. Mosquitoes, which mostly depend on human blood for survival, have teeth that enable in holding firmly to prey.
Birds are known for flaying all over the world because of the wings that assist in flight and flowing in the water. However, most birds are believed to die from smashing into the window. Most animals apart from human beings are incapable of seeing other colors. However, the owl is the only bird in a position to see blue color (Haynes 2010). Most of the hamsters are incapable of blinking both the two eyes hence most blink one eye at a time to be capable of surviving. Penguins, which are used to living in marine regions and in the ice cape locations, they are capable of jumping to a height of six feet in the air. This makes the penguin extra ordinary animals since they have large body parts. The shape of the penguin also allows the animals to have a streamlined while moving in the air.
The reindeer are animals that are addicted to bananas hence spend most of the time eating bananas, which is one of their best meals. The skunks also have unusual and extraordinary traits that make them different from the rest of the animal family. The skunks, especially the spotted skunks are capable of making a handstand before spraying (Regan 2004). The elephant, which is one of the largest mammals in the entire universe, is not in a position to jump into the air. The large body masses of the elephant make the animal unable to jump into the air.
The giant squid, which is one of the largest animals in the entire world, has an unusual and extraordinary trait that makes it exceptionally different from other animals. The giant squid has the largest eye in the entire world in comparison with the other big animals (Jenkins & Page, 2003). The katydid one of the unique and less popular animal has diverse unusual and extraordinary from the rest of the animals (Best & Barnes, 2007). The katydid because of its small size, it has holes in the hind legs that are capable of perceiving sound. The hind legs are vital in hearing in the katydid animals. The chicken are birds that are capable to fly but not for a long distance. The longest record of a flying chicken is thirteen seconds. This is contrary to the penguin, which is the only bird that is capable of swimming into the water but known for, not capable of flying (Nichols, 2007). All the birds are capable of flying except the penguin. The starfish, which is one of the animals that spend its entire life in the water, is the only animals that are capable of turning the stomach inside out. The entire population of the chicken is more than the number of the people in the entire universe.
Conclusion
In the entire animal families, almost all the animals have diverse unusual and extraordinary that enables the animals in the adaptation to both the external and internal environment. The unusual and extraordinary traits that all the animal’s posses enables the animals to live and adapt to the environment surrounding them (Jenkins & Page, 2003). All the animals regardless of the size and features have one feature that is diverse from the rest of the animal’s family
