(1) Decide on a major special event that has already taken place in a particular destination. This event might be a festival (not Nottinghill Carnival or Woodstock festival please!), a sporting event (not the Olympics please!) or a very large conference, convention or exhibition. It might be a ‘one off’ event or a recurring event. It must not be a permanent leisure feature such as a visit to the Natural History Museum or a trip to a visitor attraction such as the Globe theatre or the Tower of London etc. Please see the week 1 lecture as to what is an event. This is very important and you will lose marks if you write a report about a leisure activity that is a leisure attraction and not a special event.
(2) Provide background information about the event including the rationale for the hosting of the event.
(3) Provide background information about the destination in which the event takes place including key tourism indicators (e.g. visitor arrivals, tourism receipts)
(4) Undertake a critical analysis of the range of impacts of this event.
(5) Undertake a critical discussion of any strategies you would put in place to address the negative impacts identified.
