Write a four to six page essay on how the American people experienced the Great Depression. Answer this question: Who created the New Deal – Franklin D. Roosevelt and his administration or American dissent and the American people? To answer this question, you must define the New Deal, discuss its programs, discuss how it changed over time, how it impacted American lives and the American people, and you must demonstrate the role that the president and the people had in making the New Deal. You must use material from both the book, The American People in the Great Depression, by David M. Kennedy, and at least three primary sources from the book Major Problems in American History, 1920 to 1945. When using primary sources, you will draw on a speech, cartoon, newspaper column, or laws as one of your sources (these are known as “documents” in the Major Problems book).
