Each student will research and write a research paper The paper can be on one or more dimensions or aspects of leadership or a paper on a leader who demonstrates aspects and dimensions of leadership covered in this class.
Each research paper should cite a minimum of 7-10 professional journal articles and/or books sources (beyond those assigned as text in the class).
Writing an Academic Paper
While some of you have experience writing academic papers, others do not. Academic writing is scientific writing; it is distinct from journalism or writing you might do in an English class. It is formal and presents facts. You are to use APA style (6th Ed.) in citations within the paper and in the list of references at the end. There are a number of online sources helpful to learn APA style (I like Purdue OWL). CMU also has helpful sources. The CMU Writing Center will review your work and offer ways to improve your writing and make certain your citations and references are done correctly.
Remember to avoid contractions. Avoid informal terminology, such as beginning a sentence with “Well,… Check your paragraphs to make certain that they are not overly long. Generally, a paragraph that is longer than one page should be split into more than one paragraph. One sentence paragraphs should usually be avoided.
