Reflection on the Video ‘Theory of Everything’.
This essay is based on the reflection of the academic video shown on YouTube. This video is named as ‘Theory of Everything’ and its host is Matt Ryan. The host of this video has interviewed two persons. One is the producer of the film ‘Theory of Everything’ named Lisa Bruce. The other person interviewed is the screen writer and producer of the film named Anthony McCartney. After going through the video, I have learnt the nature of time, how did the universe began and how will it end. The interviewees have reviewed their film ‘Theory of Everything’ and tells that this film is based on the book ‘Theory of Time’. The film is based on the life of one of the renowned astrophysicist and the greatest living minds ‘Stephen Hawking’. Hawking is the main character of this movie and he falls in love with his fellow student of Cambridge named ‘Jane Wilde’.
Once an active and healthy man, at the age of 21, Hawking is diagnosed with an earth shattering ‘motor neuron’ disease. The lover of Hawking, ‘Jane’ fights endlessly for him to find a cure for this disease. With the help of his lover, Hawking embarks on one of the most extraordinary and ambitious scientific work of his life. Hawking studies the theory of time as now he has very little of his precious time left in life. So, they both defy the odds by their ground breaking research in science and medicine. Thus, achieving more than their life’s dream. I believe that this movie is a Big Bang theory-ish of romance between the two young bodies, geeks and minds colliding. After the diagnose of the disease, Hawking is given two years to live. But still he doesn’t give up and fights with his wife to combat this disease. Instead of living two years, he founds a cure and lives for 25 years and they both have three children. Jane devoted most part of her life looking after Hawking and her children. According to my view, this movie is not just about science but is also based on romance.
The emotional punch of this movie comes from the traumatic disease of Hawking. This is the turning point of the movie, where they both embark on an amazing journey to uncover the secrets of science. I think that this kind of situation is rarely seen in films as this describes the real life relationship of the two couples. ‘Eddie Redman’ is the actor who is casted as ‘Steven hawking’ and ‘Felicity Jones’ is casted as ‘Jane Wilde’. They both have done an excellent job to bring to life, the life of Hawking and Jane. After going through the YouTube video, I have learned that this film is a sensitively directed biopic centered inspirationally around the British’s greatest physicist ‘Stephen Hawking’. Director James Marsh has done an excellent job paying the tribute to Hawking and his wife with this film. The director also aims to figure out the personal and intimate applications for the cosmic inquiries of Hawking. The movie also elaborates that how the writer of ‘Brief History of Time ‘defies time.
My view is that this movie is less a cerebral experience and more of a stirring and sweet love story. It is inflicted with the good and tasteful humor with superb performances from James and Redman.
