Leisure

Leisure
Introduction
Leisure means a time of relaxation when one is not under the pressure of work. It is the time for recreation. The perception of leisure varies for all people. For some, this can be a time to spend out either individually or with their families, relaxing and having fun. To others this can be a time spend in recreational activities such as sports. Leisure in the society has changed depending on the lifestyles people have adapted. A survey was conducted using two categories of people to determine the connection between leisure and personal health; the first person was aged eighty and the second person was aged fifty five.
First Survey
This was done with an eighty year old man. He did not value his leisure time. The man runs personal errands from morning to evening. He would spend the rest of his free time in sleep. Leisure for him is considered a waste of time. This is due to the fact that he is no longer in a position to actively involve his body in sporting activity. The only leisure activity he had been involved in recently was a family gathering where all his grandchildren had re-united back with their grandparents. The man had various health complications like unstable heartbeat rates and difficulty in movement of joints. His blood pressure was also considerably high, making him vulnerable to ailments. These could be attributed to aging that was basically taking a toll on the man. He could not engage in simple physical activities like jogging. The body would respond to them as though they were vigorous. This kind of response is due to the fact that he hardly engaged his body in any strenuous activity. According to him, his involvement in leisure presently could not be compared with that of his earlier years when he would utilize it in sporting and regular exercising. He didn’t find any pleasure in it anymore.
Second survey
The second interviewee was a fifty five year old lady. The woman was a housewife who had the responsibility of carrying out various house chores for household. This meant that she involved her hands much and her legs to a very small extent. Her involvement in other leisure activities was of minimal significance to her life. She still believed that she was physically fit. She could attribute this to her ever busy schedule all day and the fact that she had very little time to rest. The woman’s health was considerably good. She would however experience a recurrent backache. Her legs grew exhausted for walking short distances. She also explained that it was not possible for her to relax her muscles for more than half an hour. She had lived with these problems for some years. The backache was proving to be beyond medication. She considered the problem in her legs a common thing to women and did not have intentions of changing her way of life. Her problems can be attributed directly to the fact that she did not involve her legs and the rest of the body much. She would only involve in recreational activity during some weekends, as she played with her small grandchildren who would sometimes pay her visits.
Conclusion
From the findings above, involvement in leisure activities will determine a person’s health stability. Regular exercising of the body will improve blood flow throughout the body. It will also keep the muscles taut and the bones will be strong. The body organs will be functioning very well and a good health will be assured.
