Serial Number Restoration

Serial Number Restoration

Serial Number Restoration

Method

The main aim of the experiment was to execute quality restoration of the serial number in relation to the substrate provided. The outcome of the experiment depended greatly on the influence of the essential elimination of the wastes through rinsing of the sample. In the execution of this experiment, the sample for the application was a serial number having undergone grounding-off through mechanical means. In order to evaluate or execute the experiment in the examination of the sample, the first step was the wiping-off of the substrate with acetone. The second step to oversee quality execution of the experiment was the holding of the sample (serial number) with the tongs within the fume hood and application of other relevant tongs. The third step was the dipping of the cotton bud into the beaker with Fry’s reagent. Fry’s reagent refers to a substance with the component of the hydrochloric acid, copper (II) chloride, water, and ethanol. This substance is commonly applicable in the contexts of iron and steel (Forensic Science Central). The fourth step towards the execution of the experiment was the rubbing of the sample’s surface gently with the dipped bud of cotton for approximately one to two minutes. The following step is the collection of the waste of the experiment. Collection of waste is crucial to the enhancement of the reliability, credibility, and valid of the results in the process of making vital conclusions and development of theories. This was possible through the holding of the substrate or the sample over a large beaker in the process of the application of acetone and the dipped cotton bud in the 15 percent of the nitric acid solution as the rinsing agents in relation to the sample. The next step in the this experiment was the rinsing of the sample by application of water thus the collection of the waste in the beaker and drying of the sample for examination or recording of the results. The viewing process aimed at determination of the presence or sign of the serial number. In the course of the experiment, the above steps were repeated until the outcome was the restoration of the serial number.

Results

Following the process of the restoration of the serial number for about 15 minutes, the result appeared as figure 7. Continuous application of the rubbing for another 20 minutes resulted into the appearance of number 1. Following the repetition of the process of restoration of the serial number for about 30 minutes, the outcome was the appearance of figure 8. Continuous application of the same steps of restoration of the serial number did not yield similar outcome like the cases of figure 8, 7, and 1 as illustrated in the figure 1. The next step to the examination of the results was the close evaluation of the sample in the microscope lab and adopting the application of the macro-lens systems. Macro-lens system refers to any lens that has large reproduction ration in excess of 1:1. Despite the fact that the macro-lens system is usually referred to as any lens possessing large reproduction ration, it rarely exceeds the ratio of 1:1 in most experiments (Micro Photography). This was illustrated on the results during the examination in the microscope lab in relation to the serial number as indicated in figure 2.
