Evaluation and Comparison between Microsoft Windows 7 and Red Hat Linux
Introduction
Microsoft’s Windows 7 is an operating system that has been coming up while Linux is an open source operating system that has been maturing. This section loos to assess the comparison between these two operating systems in terms of their cost, file systems, vulnerabilities and GUI.
In terms of cost Microsoft Windows 7 is more affordable than Red Hat Linux. Red Hat allocated it to clients and the base cost of RHEL is high taking to fact it’s a subscription model, while Windows 7 is a onetime purchase.
File System Comparison: The File system in Red Hat Linux is quite hard to recognize; the rc files, network configuration files (Jang, 2003). This is however in the process of being looked into by the Linux Standard Base (LSB) group. It is hence hard to manage it. The Microsoft Windows 7 has a file system that is much easier to understand. The normal client can easily manage it with no complicated processes being called into play.
Vulnerabilities: Red Hat linux has been accredited to be less vulnerable to attacks from foreign viruses. It is quite secure and stable on the whole. It is quite not often to get risk for the kernel or other base operating system programs (Jang, 2003). The Windows 7 is susceptible to being attacked by viruses which makes it a major let down for its uses. Most users that are keen about security opt for red Hat linux, more so businesses.
GUI: the linux that is applied in big companies have excellent GUI management assets. Additionally, be it in Windows or Linux settings if one has more than one servers to use one normally uses most of it as they script. With that in mind, Windows 7 issues a more stable setting for scripting for instance WMI, and PoweShell among others.

Personal Development Plan
A. Objective
With regard to the vital details gathered there are areas of strength and areas that ought to be advanced for each operating system.
Operating Systems (Windows 7 & Redhat Linux)
Strengths Areas to Develop
Knowledge of installation of the software Knowledge of the OS
Knowledge of the software utilities
B. Development Needs
These are the areas that I will focus on since they are my weakness.
Priority 1 Familiarity with the software
Priority 2 Familiarity with the Operating System
Priority 3 Familiarity with the negative effects that may affect the computer
Priority 4 Familiarity with the security threats and how to safeguard the system.

C. Development Opportunities
These section states the manner the skills are to be improved and resources available:
The skills will be advanced through asking my supervisor and fellow colleges that have it as their strength. Additionally, I can undertake research on the internet.

D. Action Plan
The SMART targets based on the needs noted.
Target 1 Getting to know the software utilities
Target 2 Getting to know the operating systems and their features
Target 3 Getting to know the side effects that may arise
Target 4 Getting to know the security threats and how to safeguard the system.
