The past decade has seen an increase in recycling as a way of life globally. Large corporations, small businesses and individuals are all in the bid for recycling as a responsibility for keeping the environment clean. Sustainable Living Inc. is taking up recycling efforts through a simple program available to all members of Bay area. The project focuses on general recycling activities through managing of all products that can be recycled in the community. Nevertheless, the very little action has been taken to make the need for recycling of products in Bay area realistic. This is a reason for the need to introduce a recycling program because action is very essential. The importance of the project is to encourage ethics of recycling that will permeate the community and restore faith in the Sustainable Living Inc. environmental sense of responsibility.
It is the aim for this proposal to gain recognition from Danny’s recycling regarding the existence of the Sustainable Living Inc task force. The proposed recycling efforts intend to have the authority for instituting official community recycling policy with the interest of Bay area community a heart. It is the desire of the proposal institutors to obtain administrative participation, support and feedback concerning its recycling efforts. While the main aim of the recycling task force is recycling, the long-term intention for the project is to achieve a sense of applying the 3Rs to the bay area community, namely reuse, reduction and recycling (Marion168).
Background and Need
A group of community members has had weekly meetings in the past three weeks to look at the reasons for the failure of the previous recycling program. The meetings aimed at developing ideas for the implementation of a more effective and consistent system. These meetings brought up the development of the Sustainable Living Inc. focused at restructuring the current program through the implementation of a reuse, reduce and recycling. The aim of this proposal is to help Danny’s’ recycling with new ways of saving money as it generates revenue from recycling, expansion of the current recycling program and promotion of ethical use of materials by the community. The determination is that there is a possibility for having an effective program in place. What needs doing is strengthening the existing program by making continuous and consistent education to supplement the existing program.
The reinforcement of this program requires outlining the reasons for the breakdown of the existing program and coming up with amicable processes for a new one for recycling. Currently there are bins located in various areas where people can throw their recyclable materials. Danny collects the bins for recycling of the materials in a regular schedule. This is a convenient program because it ensures that all recyclable products get into the right bins to avoid further time wasting for separation. However, the system failed in effectively instilling a sense of responsibility in the Bay area community. There is little education on recyclable materials to be placed in the bins, and most of all the exact bins for materials to get into. Through a recent survey in the area, many questioned even the existence of a recycling program in the area. That showed the existence of confusion and absence of recycling education (Puthucherril 263)
A second problem is the imposing of fines on those who contaminate the bins. It bars the effectiveness of the program through absorption of the fines within facilities management budgets, many people will opt for the recycle bins. The system also has not clearly stated how to dispose specific materials. There is an existent mix up of recyclable materials, which slows down the whole system because of contamination and a suspicion of no real recycling of the materials. Consequently, the community has lost faith in the recycling program and a restoration of that trust stands inevitably important. This proposal aims at the restoration of credibility in the existing program through combating of strong educational sensitization by Sustainable Living Inc. to restore the efforts of recycling programs. The organization will use available resources to create a formal understanding of the importance of recycling and presentation of recycling requirements to the community (Marion168).
Methodology
The Sustainable Living Inc. will organize a committee to comprise members of the community on environmental management through recycling to initiate assembly, organizing and chairing Bay area environmental initiative meetings. There will be a human resources liaison individual responsible for the maintenance of employee lists. A facilities management liaison person will take up the responsibility of implementation and educating of the staffs of facilities management regarding the formulated recycling policy. He will also be in charge of training of any new staffs into the facilities management sector and every collection to always include a facilities manager on site. There will also be a residential life liaison person responsible for residential correspondence with community assistants for the monitoring of recycling programs quality. The Sustainable Living Inc. committee will ensure the maintenance of recycling statistics, a web page for recycling, public responsibility engagement, community communication on recycling, overseeing of exchange programs on sustainable living, communicating with recycling companies like Danny, and advising the community on responsible environmental conduct (Marion168).
