In social work practice, a helping relationship is a relationship based on achievement as the workers need to have the same motivation. The purpose of social work is to help improve living standards of people through collective assistance. The concept of social services started in the ancient times, based on well wishing of religious leaders. Collective responsibility calls for the presence of a group of people, united for the same agenda. As a result of many people coming together to work, the way, these people relate establishes a form of relationship, which determines how efficiently the group will work together. Achievement as a motivator ensures selflessness as at times these workers have to volunteer while undertaking certain activities.
Social work according to experts requires workers with people skills. If not done with care, such work can escalate to chaos, as the people benefiting are at times too underprivileged, which creates confrontational competition. As a human being, the subject moved me emotionally, and I would expect the same to the clients. At the end of the day, it creates a pleasant feeling to know some fellow human beings care about how others live. The client will appreciate the help, and the selfless efforts of the social workers, which will help the social work relationship, grow.
After learning the subject, it is clear that social work is in most cases a hectic work, and needs dedication and understanding. These are skills that are vital when working a profession that involves people. I would have a positive attitude, working selflessly will need a person whose main goal is to achieve. Among fellow social workers, and client self discipline is paramount as they all stand to relate with me based on how I behave. Always looking to deliver is a skill that if I possess as a worker, will unite other workers for the common good. At the end, of the day, appropriate skills, and behavior will help both fellow social workers and clients.
Social work is a necessity in the community and has been part for a long time now. Unlike what many may think, all people in one way or another participate in social work. Helping someone else is social work, and in many cases will forge a strong relationship after between the two. The main purpose of social work is to allow people to interact in a positive manner. It will help build character among people, and act as proof the world cares about one another.
