- Does ethnicity determine your educational interest or does your geographical location and tell WHY?
Ethnicity has in no way had any influence on my education interest. Ethnicity gives a sense of belonging to a person or otherwise a way of life but it has no influence on the direction of my education interest. On the other hand ethnicity has some influence on my geographical location. In the present world, people have different ways of life, though not as intense as it was in the past, it still has some bearing on some people now. Some ethnicities are keen to observe and prevent any foreign habits creeping among them.
- Darling-Hammond (1997) states that over 2 million teachers will be hired during the 21st Century. Name three reasons why we are losing teachers in the 21st Century.
In reference to a research conducted on teacher education, licensing and hiring practices, the three elements as to why we are losing teachers are; idiosyncratic criteria, extremely variable standards and cumbersome procedures which discourage the choosing and allocation of the best teachers. In addition to this, the aspect of their preparation and how the new teachers are upheld and examined does affect if teachers will remain in the teaching program.
- Kozol (1991) and Darling-Hammond’s (1997) research revealed that not enough minority teachers major in the science, math and foreign language disciplines. Elaborate on why you think this may be true or not true. Do you believe or witness that more minorities losing teaching positions in the 21st Century because of their educational major?
Sciences, math and foreign languages are disciplines that are considered hard to handle for both the teachers and the students. In addition to this, the salary that is expected to match up to the work done is pretty small. This consequently makes potential teachers to shy away from these job opportunities. In the 21st Century, a number of teachers are expected to lose their positions as a result of their education background. The world is changing as well as the relevance of certain subjects, hence to achieve a desired future target some subjects will have to be done away with and focus more on the more relevant ones.
