This paper should examine, briefly, this history of tax withholding in the United States; and, then it should advance an argument to dispel the following myth: It is better for the Government to withhold my money and give it to me later so I don’t spend it.” There are several methods of attack, I have suggested a few: 1. We have slowly conditioned ourselves to avoid responsibility with money. 2. Is it really better for the national economy for the govt to hold money vs citizens and then refund it at the end of the year? 3. What do we loose as citizens with the govt holding our money? 4. What if we kept our money how much would it gain? 5. What is the govt paid interest on money?
