Same sex marriage can not be the same as heterosexual marriage
As a matter of fact, same sex marriage can not be the same, equated or likened to heterosexual marriage. It does not help the matters that, a good number of people argue that, gay people be accorded the right to marry much the same way straight people do (Buss, 2003). In fact, it is saddening that over the weekend, it emerged that, the coalition was intend on allowing the same sex marriage couples the right to conduct their union in places of warship the same way as conventional weddings are done.
I do support gay marriage lobbyists in clamoring for the importance of the symbolism of marriage as well as the Quakers’, Victorians and liberal Jewish denominations in fighting for the right to conduct civil unions in their places of worship in the least (London, 1992). However, I’m not at ease with the fact that, this could be ushering in what the revolutionaries call a transitional demand before the full equality by means of courts in cohorts with the well meaning chumps with their mission-creep at the European court of human rights since the labor party peer, the Lord Allis’s amendment has already set up the precedent (Weeks, 2001).
Well, people should have their rights. But in the case the issue is much more than just rights. Allowing same sex people to marry the same as the straight people is quite different. First, apart from the theological, moral and cultural freight, a practical distinction which is the root of every successful society ((UUWKI, 2006). This is the fact that heterosexual marriage does produce and raise children in a more or less stable environment. This fact lies with all successful societies since the time immemorial.
Gay addition may be taught as the way to procure but this is not the same as an ideal family in which children should grow up with both parents irrespective of the fact that the rates of divorce are in the increase (Buss, 2003). It appears that, the society in the rich west is getting more and more permissive compared to the conformist societies which they replaced however, however, there is no telling as to what, will come out of it or the aftermath of its excesses because given the progressive copout statistics, being successful and well educated is no sure way to a successful private life.
It also has been shown that more or less, getting and staying married is a choice the same way as choosing to spend money in going to college than to Ibiza. That is, It is a symptom than a cause (Weeks, 2001). Hence it is not constant for all the people in the same way. Thus the Americans say that some people try so hard to be discontent in abide to imply that, to get married and stay in it is an effort that any one can afford if they tried or decide not to
In fact in some countries like France, it is not a requirement to marry in church or to have a civil state wedding and heterosexuals do get married with all the apportionments in a five minute quickie at the registry (UUWKI, 2006). Thus in essence, whether or not you get married in church or never at all, the judges have the duty to see to the legal rights and children which the marriage confers and which the common law has recently affirmed.
Never the less, at the moment, it is only through the curtsey of john Blair that, the gay rights re non existence and although john sentamu the bishop of the York welcomes the debate hitherto with affirm assertion that, the church would not be told what to do, the possibility of such being enacted by the partnership with religious trimmings looms large.
The issue can not be cheaply compared to the old tyrant Henry VIII who once said “give me divorce, what does it matter?” considering that at that time, the dynasty needed legitimate heirs after the wars of roses and marriage was the most common legitimate way.
Never the less, that was a way ago and the basics have not changed. Men and women have hearts full of love making the family the ideal school of justice. For instance, the conservatives belief in ties that bind (Weeks, 2001). So for them the family forms the a school of sympathy in equality of living together in love and a model for children to experience feelings and conduct which is designed to render those virtues by fitting them with all the family associates.
A true human being is fitted to live together as equals conceding to each other in regard command and any other kind of exceptional necessity. Whereby, instead of claiming for one, they learn an alternate and reciprocal means whenever possible (UUWKI, 2006). This way, the family often varies relationship allowing people to choose freely and perpetuate intimacy in an environment where they can breathe and seek their destiny.
The values which the state should use to regulate the family life
Family values differ from one subculture to the other in the American society. However, the family is the basic unit of any society. As such family values define how the family members interact with each other as well as the other members of the society (London, 1992). Family values may be based on religious or political inclination both of which can determine the family’s view on what is wrong or right.
Some of the value which the state should consider in regulating family life include opposition to pre-marital sex, cohabitation and any sex relationship outside of marriage, support for policies that protect children from obscenity and sexual material in the media, the regulation of social programs offering financial aid to people who can not work or who cannot find work, how the family utilizes education, arts, music and other cultural activities, how members should treat the members of the society both within and without their cultural ethnic groups.
This is because although family values are based on religious and political inclinations, majority of families are formed outside such groups.
