Over the course of the session, you will need to write one (1) policy opinion paper about a current event. As you will see on the schedule, there are 4 (4) opportunities to write these papers, but you are only required to write one (1). This is a topical paper – you will be connecting an issue that is currently facing the government or the people of the United States with the areas covered in class. When I say “currently,” I mean within the last two (2) years. Some topics are ongoing (example: the issue of border security and immigration reform or the debate over standardized testing) while other topics are more time specific (example: elections or a court case). This is a relatively short paper – no more than three (3) full pages. However, you will need to find three or more articles to justify your position. In the paper, these articles should be properly cited using MLA internal citation. You will also include a properly formatted work-cited page.
