Is FDM going to disappear in the near future?
FDM is Frequency Division Multiplexing. It is the method used in communication whereby the total bandwidth in a medium of communication is used to transmit many signals in by dividing it into a non-overlapping series of frequency sub-bands of which each of them are used to transmit each separate signal. With regards to FDM and the future, I don’t think it is going to disappear because it is used in the most advanced means of data communication like fiber optic communication.
Will WDM revolutionize multiplexing?
Wavelength Division Multiplexing is the method used in fiber optic communication where a number of optical carrier signal are multiplexed into a single optical fiber by the use of different wavelengths. WDM will revolutionize multiplexing because it enable bidirectional communication in just one strand of fiber.
Is there a practical limit to how many devices can transmit simultaneously using code division multiplexing?
This is the method in communication where many channels share the same frequency spectrum by the use of coded channel specific sequences of pulses also known as chips. It is because of this method that allows many devices transmit simultaneously. The number of devices transmitting has no practical limit because of the coded pulses in each channel in the frequency spectrum. Devices that transmit using this method usually don’t burden the frequency spectrum and so many of them can transmit at the same time.
