Ken Price Sculpture: A Retrospective

Ken Price Sculpture: A Retrospective
Ken Price is among prominent American sculptors of the last half century who have contributed a lot to the American art. Ken’s lounging sculpture is entirely abstract, and this is different from his predecessors’ art pieces, which makes his collection a rare experience. The art pieces appear not as a figure, but a collection of extruded and intertwined sausage shapes. Such art pieces of Ken are coming in both comic style and feeling, where in as much as the details are amusing, they eventually produce a sexy sculpture. A hallmark of his achievement is the multilayered sculpture, which is voluptuously linear with a silvery green surface on which the artist has flecked with prismatic specks of various colors ranging from hot pink to icy blue.
It is evident that Ken price combines many things such as sumptuousness, sex, humor, bereavement, and roller-coaster ride all through a cosmic choice to create unique art pieces, which is a boggling achievement of innovative handiness. This shows that apart from being an artist he was a craftsman too such that, in as much as he was a sculptor, craft was his main subject on which he laid his skillful art. The fact that Ken Price’s work fell under a large and often controversial body of work, Ken’s exhibition at LACMA are just but a contribution to this work in every sense. This is because all his art works since the 1970s were revolutionary in their appearance and especially in Ken’s use of beautiful ad complex colors and importantly the use of shapes within shapes (LACMA 1). His employment of full potential of color in terms of physicality, density, and even weight to express form and feelings was one of his mastery that founded his uniqueness. The use of color and shapes to produce art pieces comic in form and feeling influenced much of his show where he has produced controversial pieces of work such as those that communicated sex, death, and humor which are abstract things that may prove difficult for most artists to produce.
