Management

Management is a function and signifies the people who are involved in discharging it. A manager occupies a social position which carries in it some form of authority. Management, therefore, is a form of work in which there is involvement of regulation and bearing from a group of people towards ensuring achievement of the goals of an organization. The manager ensures they plan and organize the strategies in which they will employ to guarantee achievement of the objectives. The manager thus ensures they discharge their duties with regard to the principles of management, demonstrated in the company. This research thus seeks to formulate a plan in which the new general manager of Singapore clothing enterprises ensures utilization of management principles in everyday practices (Morden, 2004).
Background of company
Singapore clothing enterprises is a chain of high-end clothing stores that operates within Singapore. The company began in 2000 thus, has operated in the market for many years. There are various reasons why I left the company because the management was not up to standard. This has resulted to a loss of several clients based on poor performance. The objectives of the company have not been met and this result to an achievement of loses rather than profits.
Poor planning from the management brought the failure in the company. Planning is vital because it gives the company a vision, which allows them to work towards a certain goal. However, in Lauren, accomplishment of such was not possible. The organization simply designed clothes and sold them out without a specific target. This did not allow us to move with the current fashion. Due to this, we lost clients who opted to purchase from other places. The employee slowly began leaving the company, which we hardly noticed because there was no prior planning of the number of employees we targeted to work for the company.
The company failed to organize how employees can work together to ensure proper delivery of services. Due to this, conflicts arose because of duplication of tasks. One thinks that another will perform a task and when both of them fail to, clients get disappointed. This then results to conflicts brought about by dissatisfaction of clients. This caused a discouragement in the operations of management. When they saw clients and employees conflicting, they too got discouraged thus failed to manage tasks at the work place. Lack of controlling led to overspending of the organization’s resources, which led to a realization of several loses at the company. This results to a failure in leading employees to operate in the correct direction as required for the achievement of the company’s objectives. This thus, prompted me to look for work in another company where I would apply the management principles to ensure achievement of the set objectives.
In the new company, I realized that implementation of the planning technique is vital. Planning is also vital where the manager is required to set goals of the organization and how he intends to make them realized. I chose to implement planning through assessing the position of the organization currently and focusing to where it wants to go. The company had only five employees for instance, and wanted to expand in order to have, several departments headed by several heads the manager needs to engage in appropriate planning. This called for making attainable plans that may take it to where it wants to be. I first assisted to come up with the objectives of the company. In the case of the Singapore clothing enterprise, I came up with proper plans that enabled the company realize its objectives (Abrams & Kleiner, 2003).
The aim of Singapore enterprises is to operate worldwide, through attracting many clients that will facilitate opening up of other branches in the world. Thus, I made a plan; first, to ensure clients are attracted so that they remain loyal to the company. Thus, the manager makes plans to ensure they attract clients. These plans may include giving free sample clothes to first time clients so that they are attracted to the organization. With time, several will be attracted causing the organization to expand (Morden, 2004).
During planning, it is vital to ensure analysis of the objectives of the organization. This ensures proper strategies are put in place in order to ensure all aims of the business are met. Planning requires that some conditions take care of the environment that faces the organization. This ensures the management forecasts on the issues likely to occur in the future. For instance, our company focused on the changing fashions in the future by ensuring that they take consideration of such through keeping up with fashion through the media. For instance, if issuing out clothes free as a form of attracting clients would bring losses to the business, then the manager should make a different plan to attract the clients (Saxena, 2009).
I then ensured organization was accomplished to ensure the plans made earlier are fulfilled. Organizing involves the development of a structure that ensures human resources ensure objectives are realized. This gives the ability to ensure achievement of the goal. The human resource performs activities to facilitate success. in order, to ensure appropriate performance of specific activities I designed the decisions made properly. For instance, if there are people sent out to perform a task like advertise the product, proper designing occurs through stating the exact time to do it and the ways in which they should carry out the same. Though independence of workers is vital, they need to have tasks that they can perform best to ensure minimal time used.
The process of leading involves giving directions towards or against something. When one leads, they influence them so that they take several actions. Leading thus guides one to a particular direction, giving them valid reasons as to why they should not stay at a particular place. In order to become an outstanding leader; therefore, I ensured I achieved what I expected from my staff. For instance, if I require the staff to become responsible and report to work by 8.00am, I lead them by doing so that they emulate him thus advance the business (Tripathi, 2008).
Controlling entails ensuring the activities the company engages in are within the expected standards of the company. This allows the manager to come up with performance standards, set to each employee. For instance, the sales executive should ensure they draw 100 new clients to the company every day. The designers should ensure they are ever at per with the changing fashion trends. I then compare their results to the standards initially set and ensure initiation of correction whenever there is diversion. For instance, if the designers were unable to come up with the current fashion of clothes I ensure correction of this through instigating refresher courses to improve their knowledge.
Through several practices, I ensured implementation of the management principles. The structure of the organization is vital for the organization, which facilitates coordination of effort. This calls for division of tasks. I achieved this through coming up with an action plan, which divides the specific activities and assigning them to different employees. They are given specific periods of time, which the activities, need to be performed. Therefore, I made sure that the structure of the organization is adhered to while making decisions. During decision-making, I ensured dealing with all the demands of the other people in different positions. Facilitation of this occurs through the line of command where one reports to the one above them. For instance, if an employee goes for advertisement outside and encounters problems like diversity in fashion between what the company provides and what the people prefer. This would thus imply that the company changes it style of production so that it is in line with those that most people or a certain group like the youth prefer (Abrams & Kleiner, 2003).
I supervised the staff through utilizing the principle of leading. I supervised staff, to ensure that proper doing of activities. During planning, the management ensures that the company has different objectives that it wishes to achieve. Therefore, to facilitate proper achievement of results, division of activities among the staff as different staff is assigned what to do. Organization therefore comes in. It involves the ability to give different duties to different staff with an aim of achieving a certain goal. For instance, I involved itself in designing the clothes, other staff will do research to find out the current fashion. Others are sent to publicize the clothes designed as others sell them. Thus, division depends on specialization, which occurs according to the capacity each employee has. Therefore, every staff enjoys what they do, and the zeal enables excellent performance. During such times, supervision is minimal though I ensure proper carrying out of tasks assigned (Tripathi, 2008).
Planning enabled me as the manager to forecasts the staffing requirements of the organization. According to Saxena, (2009), the success of any organization depends on how qualified staff is and how much they are willing to offer to the company. For instance, plans occur to ensure expansion of the company through building many other, different offices in several countries. Thus, I understood that the requirement of staff in these new offices is vital. Thus, provision is made for an expansion of salaries in the future and ensuring motivational forms are built up to enable the staff become active which facilitates proper delivery of work (Saxena, 2009).
As a leader, the manager has the ability to make decisions on staffing. For the business to be successful, the staff requires periodical training that reminds them of the basics and allows them to fit in the industry. The staff at Singapore enterprises for instance requires training due to the ever-changing fashions of clothing in the industry. In order to uphold its place in the industry, consideration on fashion is vital to facilitate the attraction of clients. Thus, I led in ensuring offering of refresher courses periodically to maintain position in the market.
The plan the manager comes up with should ensure they are cost effective. In had to make appropriate decisions aimed at ensuring correct spending of the finances of the company. Managers thus require being able decision makers to ensure the plans cover all the objectives of the company and that they are cost-effective. Achievement of this comes by ensuring proper budgeting occurs in advance. The approximate amounts likely to be spent are covered in the budget so that any activities covered under the plan fall under the plan and do not take up excess money (Abrams & Kleiner, 2003).
Observation and gauging of the costs of business occur at the end of every financial year. This facilitates correction measures that the manager instills through controlling to facilitate correction of any excessive costs the business incurs. For instance, if the profits were not much, it may affect the salaries of the employees. Thus, correction occurs immediately through the financial books and deviations that occurred in the process. If too much cash was directed at providing free samples, then I ensured that such a promotion might not be utilized in future. A plan is thus brought up for another method of attracting clients. This could be through coming up with an open-air day where the company exposes its skills through the clothes it has designed.
I made decision sin the company towards ensuring all the objectives of the company are covered. For instance, for Singapore clothing enterprises, the aim is to ensure expansion of clients all around the world. I thus came up with the objectives that the company targets to achieve. Thus, the different roles of the manager are spelt out to assure achievement through splitting the activities among the different employees. For instance, when advertising, I gave some employees the task of ensuring they get the targeted clients either through writing of posters or door to door. Some will give out the free sample clothes, in order to attract. Thus, the manager ensures each employee has a specific task so that tasks are not duplicated (Morden, 2004).
I also ensured I evaluated the plans I had made, to find out if they were achieved. This facilitates proper knowledge of whether the objectives are realized or not. Thus, evaluating facilitates ability to find out if some objectives need consideration or not. For instance, if the number of clients targeted initially is not achieved, the management makes other plans to ensure achievement of the objective.
I led employees so that they understand the activities they are expected to carry out. This involved assigning them and giving each one time and deadlines of delivery on the same. For instance, I studied the employees before assigning them tasks. In an event that the staff is sent out to promote the clothes, I assigned different employees different duties depending on the ability. Some are the sales executives who meet the client one on one, while others simply observe to find out what is going on. Thus, leading is vital because, it enabled me gain power to run the business (Tripathi, 2008).
Adherence of the above management plan, therefore, enabled me as the manager of Singapore proper management of both the staff and business operations to properly run the activities of the company to ensure achievement of objectives. This allowed Singapore enterprise to maintain its competitive advantage as it comes up with excellent, fashionable clothes that attract customers. Achievement of this occurs through utilization of the planning process, which provides a leeway into what to do, organizing that stipulates the tasks performed, leading which guides and controlling which provides regulation thus allow excellent realization of profits. Management is, therefore, vital in every organization. The roles that a manager plays ensure success through achievement of the goals of the organization. Every organization should, therefore, articulate all the principles of management, work together with the workforce and this would yield expected results. The company is now one of the leading designers in the world.
