You’re expected to formulate a thesis and show how concrete textual moments illustrate and support it. You should apply a “critical frame” to your research and show why the information you decide to present to your audience is relevant to your thesis, your position in the discussion (your argument). As with the textual analysis, you should try to start with a question, an intellectual moment, or a textual problem that interests you and develop your project from there. You’re trying to show why or how you think the discussion has taken the shape it has, not simply argue that it should be one way or another, or that it’s “wrong” in its current shape.
