Technology and social isolation

Proposal Pitch for Technology and Social Isolation Affects
Introduction
A. Topic
1) Research question: What are the consequences society faces as technology becomes more and more part of our everyday routine and personal lives?
2) Working thesis: Technology interfers with social interaction and causing social isolation.
3) Angle: The social consequences brought by of technologies on our society. According to my research so far, technology isolates people, kill conversation and encourage sedentary behavior.
B. Context
1) Technology interfers with social interaction and creates social isolation. Digitial World can cause the illusion of companionship without the demands of a real relationship. The ideas of Sora Park (2012), Anthony Paik and Kenneth Sanchagrin(2013), and Vroon (2009), who are all experts on this topic, will help to establish my credibility.
2) This topic is important to me to help me understand the changes we are all going thru. Lately I find myself less physically social, spending more time ate the computer. I would love to understand WHY?
A. Audience
1) My audience is the general public. It should be written for anyone as curious as I am. No age limits, but for the ones who are trying to understand why these changes are happening right in front of us and we have not notice.
2) My secondary audience would be my professor and fellow students.
3) My audience shares my opinions and values and will likely be on my side, some may be skeptical, but I am sure after this paper, they will be more aware of it
II. Evidence
A. In the research gathered so far, I found many articles supporting my theory. Inclusive an article from a researcher at Stanford, Norman Nie, and others, technology interfers with social interaction and creates social isolation. Digitial World can cause the illusion of companionship without the demands of a real relationship
B. I will look for additional facts and statistics to support my theory even further. Then I will represent the opposing viewpoint.
III. Conclusion
As Internet use grows, Americans report they spend less time with friends and family, shopping in stores or watching television, and more time working for their employers at home—without cutting back their hours in the office. Internet regularly (more than 5 hours a week) feel that it has reduced their time with friends and family, or attending events outside the home. This is an early trend that society really needs to monitor carefully. Email use is an additional medium now available for communicating with friends and family, but one can’t share a coffee or a beer with somebody on email or give them a hug.
