Description of the assignment
The aim of this assignment is to help students broaden their theoretical and practical experiences in the field of social entrepreneurship. By doing this assignment, students will learn about bricolage and understand entrepreneurship in resource-scarce regions and situations.
Students should follow the following procedure:
1. Identify a social enterprise in UK.
a. Preferred criteria for selection of social enterprises:
i. Type: Registered as CIC
ii. Number of employees: At least 10 employees (volunteer, full time and part time)
iii. Age: Older than 5 years
2. Arrange interviews (face to face, over the phone or skype) with the top managers/ board members/employees. The minimum number of interviews is two (there is no limitation on the maximum number). It is usually recommended that the researcher continues interviewing until he/she does not hear any new information from the interviewees.
3. The detailed list of questions to be asked in the interview will be provided.
4. Interviews should be recorded and key points of each interview should be transcribed and submitted (both the recorded interview and transcription) as appendices of the final report.
5. Students can use secondary data (internet, reports, newspaper, etc,) to enhance their understandings of the activities of the social enterprise.
6. Students should conduct the literature review and familiarise themselves with the related literature.
7. The final report should include both the literature review and the findings of the research.
8. Students should complete the forms related to the description of each case and attach it as one of the appendices of the report.
9. It should be noted that the aggregated collected data from social enterprises might be used for future research and teaching in this area.
