Review a variety of best-seller lists on the web (including the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/pages/books/bestseller/; USA Today: http://asp.usatoday.com/life/books/booksdatabase/default.aspx; BookSense.com, a website that works with independent booksellers around the USA: http://www.booksense.com/bestsellers/index.jsp; and Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com, then follow the link to Books and the link to Best Sellers) and in print (suggestions are boundless, and include the Wall Street Journal, Entertainment Weekly, and your local newspaper). Compare the various lists, picking 5-10 titles and charting their locations on several of the varied best-seller lists. What differences do you notice? How might the differences be explained? If you were to develop a best-sellers list, what criteria would you use?
