What the story tells about life
The story talks about life of senior school youths. These youths are often faced with problems of drinking alcohol and bullying at school. They are also faced with evil thoughts of committing suicide, dysfunctional relatives as well as many current problems associated with senior school life. The author thus puts herself in the life of a youthful senior school student who has to face these challenges in their process of transfer to adulthood. She loudly and exceptionally relays this information through the actions of her characters in the story.
Repetition of details I find in the story
In the story, I find details describing Miller’s character to be repeated several times. Repetition was necessary to give emphasis to Miller’s actions which were disgusting.
Details that seem important to the meaning of the tale
Miler’s details of how he was once a criminal and awful guy brings meaning to the story. His evil behaviors seem supportive of his later decision to change his behaviors and actions thus realizing the importance of being a decent person in the society.
What I like about the story
In the novel “Twisted’’ I liked how the author puts herself in the shoes of senior school male student. Then, she vividly brings out their challenges in life. The story is truly captivating as it reveals the problems faced by the males. It also focuses on how they try to move through the problems and later their way of changing their evil habits and transforming to responsible men in the society.
What I dislike about the story
In the story, I dislike about the behaviors of senior school students who engaged in drinking alcohol, sex and destructive social groups they form. Parents of the kids sacrifice to save and educate the students yet the students do not seem to appreciate the sacrifices by concentrating on their studies and working hard at school.
What the title suggests
The title “Twisted’’ suggests the difficult situations and circumstances faced by young men in their process of transforming from their youthful lives to adult lives. For instance, it shows hoe Miller moved through difficulties in his senior school life until he matured and made sense of consequences of his actions.
How the characters assist in defining the sense of the narrative
The characters used by Anderson contribute to the sense of the story since a majority of them had a twisted life before transforming to exceptional individuals. For instance, Miller and Bethany lead a reckless life at senior school by getting involved in criminal activities such as taking alcohol, engaging in premarital sex and bullying fellow students. Both of the characters later realized the penalty of their dealings and changed their behaviors.
My favorable quote from the story
“I was good at digging holes. It was the rest of life I sucked at” (p. 39).
Two locations that are of significance to the story
Two locations that are of significance to the story include the school and the place where the party was held. These two places are crucial as they help in developing the plot of the story. It is at these places that proceedings unfold hence progression of the story.
