Why ethics are important in the security industry
To the human mind, the question of power and ethics to security is usually a subject to be focused upon. The issue of an organization entrusting an individual or another organization with the sole responsibility of maintaining its own security is very tricky and thus the ethics comes in handy whether positive or negative. The way individuals or the organization entrusted with the others security carries itself on or off the job, will depict whether they are worthy of the trust accorded onto them. Ethics entails how humans live within their social groupings and its importance to the security industry is that it is not only philosophically important, but it also may mean the very existence and survival of an industry or a business (Malachowski, 2001).
An example of ethics in the security industry entails minimization of forgery. Some of the issues that are rampant in the issue of ethics are like the misinterpretations of certifications and professional skills .Individuals have been known to forge certificates and to fake professional skills where they hardly know anything that entails the job. Such individuals may end up not knowing what the job and the society at large entails of them thus ruining the trust of their employees and leaving a loophole in the security of the organization (Purpura , 2007). The security industry being granted the opportunity to safeguard the assets of individuals and society at large has to accept the full responsibilities of this undertaking and in so doing fulfill their obligations.
From the above example it is evident that without ethics in the organization, smooth operations within the organization will be hampered by fraud and unqualified individuals who have forged themselves to the security organization. This also place many stalk holders at risk since absence of competency can result to mismanagement.
The question of ethics in the security industry brings with it both negative results and positive results. Knowledge of ethics can be used by an individual for his own personal gain while on the other hand the same knowledge can be used to improve the security industries. When an individual knows little or nothing concerning ethics in the security industry, then we have a scenario that endangers the firm’s security.
